Hi as title says just had my first newborn baby Laughing
Everyone keeps telling me to gives the bikes a rest as there too dangerous you have a wee one now, just wanting to know other riders point of view on this.
I ride fast B road and some track day action also mainly ride sports bikes.

I Feel safe and confident on the road and in my ability I see a lot of guys chuck them because of this matter butt why ?? Is my question to yourselves. Am I being selfish to still ride?

If your going to take silly risks then yes you should stop but if your sensible and give yourself a better chance at getting home to see the baby and being around to see it grow up I don't see why you should stop riding.

Well if you die you won't have to be around to feel guilty... Thumbs Up

Just don't ride like a bellend. Easier said than done though. It's a real challenge sticking to the speed limits on nice roads.

I thought about it when my first came along whos now 4, i have a 8 month old and now aswell and still cant see a need to sell it.
But my bike is solely for commuting and i rarely go out for a 'blast' as you would probably call it.

Because riding a motorcycle is a confirmed death sentence.

I've ridden continuously through all mine being newborns. Can't say it's ever bothered me. I don't get the whole increased self preservation thing just because a kid has arrived. I'm as eager to stay alive as I ever was before I had kids. At no point before the birth of any of them did I think, meh fuck it, I'm single, I can die right now and it'll be fine.

The only difference now that I have kids is that I'm a little more sensible. And I don't mean I ride slower/safer etc... I mean that I have life insurance etc as I don't want whoever is left to look after my offspring to struggle, should I die for whatever reason.

If your being judged by others, I'd be tempted to tell them to shove their heads up their arse. Maybe I'm lucky, or maybe the people I know aren't stupid/brave enough to question my motives, but nobody has ever questioned the fact I ride motorbikes.

Really can't fucking understand this "I've got a kid I can't ride bikes" thing.

If you ride like a dick and crash, you'd probably drive a car like a dick and crash anyway.

Ride but ride safely which you should be doing anyway. No daft risks, no 140mph blasts around blind corners.

The opposite holds too - having a kid is often stressful as fuck for all kinds of reasons. Having a means of escaping that (if only for an hour or two) shouldn't be underestimated imo.

"Oooh I bet your cold riding that 'thing' "
Am I? oh thanks for letting me know.

"Look at this bellend with no skin left on his foot from riding a bike"
Oh very nice, are you sure thats what caused it?

"Dont forget a florescent orange HAZMAT suit whilst your on that bike"
Ok will do thanks.

Seriously, learn to ride a bike yourself and understand things or fuck off. Is what I say/think to them lot.

My dad has serious heart troubles but still refuses to stop scuba diving, I'd sooner see him go doing something he loves than go as an old vegetable in a care home pissing himself.

Just dont ride a bellend all the time Thumbs Up

I've never wanted kids so was forced to take up motorcycling Laughing In all seriousness if having kids makes you even consider giving up motorcycling then give it up. Otherwise it'll always be in the back of your mind while riding and will probably kill the enjoyment/rush you get from it. Most importantly make sure it's your decision either way

My daughters are now 26 and nearly 29 and not once did I ever stop enjoying getting out on the bikes - be it to the Isle of Man TT,the Bol d'Or,Moto GP, WSB at Assen and Valencia, and going away with Mrs.Fizzer with her riding her own bike. They were brought up knowing that we ride bikes and if it happens it happens.

Mrs.Fizzer made allowances just in case something happened.

Death is inevitable.Enjoy life while you have it Wink

I would sell your bike and get a bike with a side car, make sure you get a sidecar with isofix. The downside to this is that you won't be able to filter or go as fast but it's cheaper than a car.

Main thing I thought about when having a kid was make sure I had a will and appropriate life insurance not that I quit motorcycling. I would say the main thing to think about is trying to keep a child safe as they are much more at risk of injury or death from just playing in the home as they don't understand Danger or risk.

As others have said, keep that steed.

My daughter was born 23/12/2013, and apart from a bit less time spent in the saddle, nothing has changed, nor does my wife expect anything too Thumbs Up .

Mate, you could just as easily slip on a loaded nappy* and decaffinate yourself on the edge of the crib.
