Was it just us or was the MCN show a bit crap this year?

Seemed relatively (compared to the NEC show) small with fewer retailers.

Suzuki didn't bother to show, missed the opportunity to show off the new VStrom!

No eye candy?!?!

On the plus the weather was great so the ride there and home was excellent!

It's been on the decline for years, just getting worse now.

Last year did it for me for me to stop going. Not a lot there and can be done in a couple hours if that.

NEC > Excel.

I went NEC in November and it was hard to get around everywhere in one day timewise, so much more there and activities that can be done.

NEC used to be a lot better years ago and is slowly on the decline but it's still good IMO.

Aren't all bike shows a bit pants? The verdict usually seems to be "Should have spent the money on petrol."

Sticking with my prediction that Suzuki UK will be out of business, phoenixed or "restructured" by the end of 2014.

All motor events seem down. I run one myself between the SECC and Ingliston and its harder to get dealer and manufacturer support than ever with dwindling marketing budgets to play with.

TBF, EVERY bike show I have been to has been worst than the last. I don't know if they are getting worse or I just care less.

IMO the only one worth going to now is the BMF.

2006/2007 win. Good discounts, lots of shops and lots of booty. Think it was Ally Pally.

When it hit the excel, the first year was good, but every year it has declined. It costs them too much in money and effort to bring their stock etc...

The internet IMO has killed the show.

Would be very surprised to see Suzuki withdraw from selling product in a major developed bike market. Not impossible, but it would be equivalent to saying that they no longer care about big bikes. On the other hand, something clearly has to change. So I would say a restructuring of the European management structure and a big "vision" speech like that of Kawasaki back in, when was it, 2002? Suzuki's March 2014 financial results should be announced in May 2014. Probably wouldn't come earlier than that, if then.

And it was very surprising when they bailed on the North American car market, but they did.

Their UK bike sales aren't even in the top ten and they have 72 UK dealers to support, including making warranty payouts on bikes that were booked as revenue long ago.

Actually, when I counted last year there were over 80 dealers.

https://static2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120219052715/dragonball/images/8/81/Dramatic-chipmunk.gif

I doubt they'll bail on the UK entirely, but I'd be surprised if they can continue as-is without some financial shenanigans that their creditors will end up paying for.

Excel was pants, got round it in a couple hours. Went to the NEC in December which was huge as always, first time I've been in about 15 years though but it does seem like the manufacturers are putting less and less effort in.

When I first went. Honda were putting on a samurai display to showcase a bike they were releasing, used to be epic.... Maybe that was just because I was younger then though.

seems like it would be a better idea if these stands had some tablet devices that allowed you to browse their on line catalougue and place an order for stock at the stand and then have the item delivered to your home address same as what you do at home but with all the huff and puff that comes with the show.
plus have a small amout of gear on display to attract people in.

its what i would do if i was running one of these stands, the internet has changed things if thats the case bring the internet to the show!

adapt mutherfuckers, adapt i said!!!!

This was the first time that I went to the NEC and Excel shows within the same few months. The stalls were all so similar that unless I miss the NEC or have something specific to buy, I'll probably miss the Excel show. I was done in less than 2 hours, and that included watching a 20 min presentation on a stand.

I actually liked the NEC show.

It was massive, I couldn't even find my way out.

I also found bikes must be getting smaller as years ago I struggled to flat foot both sides.

The problem with the NEC show is it's just before Xmas and its hard to justify money.

Whereas a show at this time of the year would be much better, there's no Christmas, quite a lot of my bills are 10 months and the weathers crap so no riding.

In the 90's the shows were OK, but once the millennium hit they started going downhill. I go probably once every 4 years or so now, just in case things have improved, and each time I say "Never again".
