I'm not entirely sure to be honest. A quick google reveals a Tyga CNC top yoke on ebay for £199, Harris yokes for £500ish...
Looking at the Tyga yoke and how thin it is in places, I think mine is a little bit overengineered, especially as I'll be using 7075 ally (versus the Tyga's 6082 which is considerably weaker) ____________________ C50 > GN250 > XJ600 > SV650S K7 > 2001 RSV Mille R > MT-09, XR400R > 2005 Fireblade (trackbike) + 2022 MT-09 + ZXR400 race bike |

Got halfway through running the first program to machine the underside today before the late shift came in and needed to run a production job on the machine.
Here's the fixture I CNC'd to use once the underside has been machined.

Here's how far I got today...had a little fine tuning to do in the program halfway through.

More to follow on Friday hopefully! I have 2 blanks so will be filming the entirety of the machining process on the second one with the GoPro ____________________ C50 > GN250 > XJ600 > SV650S K7 > 2001 RSV Mille R > MT-09, XR400R > 2005 Fireblade (trackbike) + 2022 MT-09 + ZXR400 race bike |

A bit more progress made today before I was kicked off the machine again at 10am. I programmed some stupid moves in that left a mark on the top left of the yoke as seen in this pic. Chamfers need to be run then it's time to turn it over and do the front
All of the excess material will come off when I mill the top face.

Today's progress!

Under the bottom clamp I've milled a counterbore and 2.5mm chamfer where the top yoke nut sits, but I forgot to take a picture.
The gaping hole is a product of accidentally setting a Z-depth repeating macro value too high...definitely a good thing I have 2 blanks.
The joys of programming it long hand (and not checking it rigorously enough)
All that's left to do now is mill the angles on the top of the yoke, chamfer and slit the fork bores, and drill, counterbore and tap the holes for the clamp bolts. Should be done tomorrow with a bit of luck! ____________________ C50 > GN250 > XJ600 > SV650S K7 > 2001 RSV Mille R > MT-09, XR400R > 2005 Fireblade (trackbike) + 2022 MT-09 + ZXR400 race bike |

Very cool, I was tempted to do something similar on a hand mill before I realised I wasn't that good ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |

Forming radii and angles on a manual mill really are a massive pain in the ass. For something like this, the amount of fixturing it would take to get it anything like accurate would stop me doing it at all!

Today's work. When I milled out the clip-on locating slots on the underside, I accidentally went too far (another variable misnumbering...) with one of them and it went further than the final thickness, hence the hole on the r/h side. All sorted for number 2.
The fork bores are chamfered, and one side has had the bolt holes counterbored, drilled and tapped. On Friday I will do the other side, slit both and then it's good to go after deburring

Kitamura H600B. It's old, it's leaky and the spindle bearings are on the way out. Perfect for pissing about on though! Oh and it's running a 25 year old Fanuc 1M interface which has background edit graphics enabled...they usually work after turning the machine off and on again 3 times (at 5 minutes a time)
They won't let me loose on anything newer yet ____________________ C50 > GN250 > XJ600 > SV650S K7 > 2001 RSV Mille R > MT-09, XR400R > 2005 Fireblade (trackbike) + 2022 MT-09 + ZXR400 race bike |

I've done some very basic (stab in the dark basically) FEA based on a unidirectional force of 5000N within the fork bores and a fixed point as the stem bore. It pissed it no problem, but the process of putting through the FEA was a bit like this:
https://s.mlkshk.com/r/97VP.jpg
so needless to say i'm quite certain the results are irrelevant. ____________________ C50 > GN250 > XJ600 > SV650S K7 > 2001 RSV Mille R > MT-09, XR400R > 2005 Fireblade (trackbike) + 2022 MT-09 + ZXR400 race bike |
