PSU question, why so much revs?

Hello, I recently got a gelid tranquillo CPU cooler to OC it a bit and I've noticed that PSU gets much warmer and louder than it used to be. Is something going wrong? Intake and exhaust fans run quiet, CPU fan is also quite. The PSU is even louder than my old ATA HDD.

I've set everything back to the factory settings and it's still the same. Is there anything I could do about the heat and noise of the PSU? It's 600w and I don't even use like 60% of it so it shouldn't get that warm.

If cleaning it out doesn't help, check if the PSU fan is dying, would explain it being both louder and hotter. Just remember to discharge the thing properly if you are going to open it up and replace the fan.

Just like the last person stated it could be getting louder due to the bearings within the fan are starting to wear out making it more noisy, and therefore then fan's motor is working much harder to turn fan without much success to reach it's optimum speed to keep it cool properly!

Well, I ''only'' cleaned the PSU, since I don't have a new fan to put in. The noise is less noticeable and the temp dropped a bit. It still produces quite a lot of heat and noise though.

The fan might be at the end of it's life. 6 years of hard work and it's about to be gone.

Q: Would any 120x120m fan be alright?

By the way, the whole PC acts like it's about to die. GPU/CCC does not cooperate even in fresh instal of the OS, one HDD makes quite unpleasant grinding noise every now and then and so on. 6 years seems to be quite enough for a personal computer.

I assume that if you remove the overclock then the PSU still makes the same bad noises?

Just because you have overclocked the cpu it doesnt mean it is running at the speed..... find out if your CPU has stepping.

So the same thing again, the PSU is still clean like brand new, but the fan runs way faster than usual. I was thinking, could it be the result of the quite big CPU cooler I put in there, in terms of proper air flow?

Larger cooler is heavier. Might be un-seating off the CPU slightly causing poor thermal transfer.

Alarm bells are ringing. Your PSU sounds like it's fux0red and on its way out.

I'm running a pretty high end rig with a 1000w Coolermaster Silent Pro and it is just that, quiet and cool as fuck. If it was making loads of noise and getting hot, I would be looking to Coolermaster to replace it under their 5 year warranty.

Most of the decent PSU's come with a gold/silver rating now that usually includes a 5 year warranty, which would suggest that they're quality made to come with such a long warranty.

Another reason why I bought Intel SSD's, they came with 5 year warranties over the standard 2/3.

Long warranties say to me, manufacturers are willing to put their money where their mouth is and stand behind their products.

Can't say I'd fall for that. The money intel asks for their SSD's is mental.
