So... I would like to share some videos on an Indian-made bike, a Bajaj Pulsar200NS. Kinda like 'take a look' into what is happening in India.

And sometimes, Indian bikes are sometimes compared to Chinese ones in UK/US forums, but I think Indian bikes are a league apart. Obviously not as good as the Japanese or the European oness, but certainly better than the Chinese ones. Very Happy

This one's being used on a tour to Ladakh, in one of the toughest and harshest road conditions in the world. Also note that these roads are also the highest motor-able roads in the world-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8DudE9JZko

This one's being a maniac and is out for blood. Completely insane road race b/w a Pulsar200NS and a CBR250R. Though I condemn this, I feel this is the best video which shows the capabilities of the bike when ridden hard. Both riders appear inexperienced though -

Here's one being all calm and civil in Singapore-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-FxuDf-0j0

In Columbia -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgYjcoDIZT4

This bike has a huge fan following in SE Asia and Latin America as well. Kawasaki was so impressed with the bike that it decided to sell them under their brand name in some SE Asian countries -

Indian bikers(and my friends) paying tribute to the bike-
https://nakedwolves.in/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/150192_3285352912762_1691643124_n.jpg

Its a jack of all trades bike, and all this at GBP 900. This is my first bike. Smile

Please share your thoughts. Smile

£900, but once you add in import fees, VAT, dealer mark ups.

It'll be about £2000.

Bikes from China which cost £200 end up costing £1200 in the UK.

I don't think a yzf r125 can keep up with it. Can a 125cc 4-stroke 15bhp bike keep up with a 200cc 4-stroke 23.5bhp bike? The 200NS does a GPS-indicated 85mph without troubles. The 200NS is also marginally quicker than the Hyosung GT250R.

Here's a comparison b/w the 200NS rivals in the Indian market -

*EDIT* I forgot to mention that this bike was designed by Edgar Heinrich, the guy who also designed the BMW S1000RR.

On that note, some Indian bikes which will hit the roads in the near future -

Bajaj Pulsar 400CS-
Class: Power Cruiser
375cc, expected 38-45bhp
Price: 1930* GBP
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weEf-6A9D50

Bajaj Pulsar 400SS-
Class: Sportsbike
375cc, expected 40-45bhp
Price: 1900* GBP
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYgI-yFpObM

Hero HX250R-
Class: Sportsbike
250cc, 31bhp@9000rpm, 26Nm, 139kg kerb weight
Price: 1450-1900* GBP
This bike apparently has more power and is lighter than the CBR300 which is stated to be launched soon.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnVmR9nGdDA

Mahindra Mojo-
Class: Looks like a cruiser to me
300cc, 25bhp@8000rpm, 25Nm@6500rpm
Price: 1450-1900* GBP
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2V8zOfSS-Q

Hero Hastur-
Class: Middle-weight naked street-fighter
620cc, 80PS, 160kg kerb weight
Price: 3375-4340* GBP
This bike is touted to have one of the best specs in it's class.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNzscaw_zHM

*All prices are estimates.

Would any of these sell in the UK market?

Bajaj-KTM are also developing new twin-cylinder 500cc and 800cc engines for their future bikes.

There is also this - https://blog.motorcycle.com/2014/02/21/motorcycle-news/top-five-global-motorcycle-companies-ranked/

I am pretty excited for the future of motorcycling in India. Smile

I was in India in 2005, and hired 3 bikes over the few months i was there.

1. Hero Honda Karisma - 220cc, about 18hp. Fun, and plenty fast enough for Indian roads!

2. Bajaj Pulsar 150 - Brakes were worrying, and the tank was shaped so that if you crashed it would remove your testicles. But it was quite badly maintained by the owner.

3. Royal Enfield Bullet 350 - Exhaust goes, bahbahbahbahbahbahbabapbapbapbahbapbahbapbahbapbahbapbahbapbahbap and blows your trousers from 20 feet away.

I must say, the roads are not suitable for anything over powerful!

Haha that is true. No real dirt bikes yet. We are eagerly waiting for KTM to launch some soon.

But Indian bikes are built to withstand really bad conditions though... Check out these videos of the 200NS traversing some really really bad roads(can they even be called that), that's normal riding condition for us in the monsoons. Smile

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMis9ScudvU
The heavy 'patpatpat' sound is the rain hitting the helmet/camera I think. This guy is probably touring on his bike. I had to travel some 200km on worse roads when I toured 400km(200km of bad roads, 200km of good roads) from my hometown to a coastal city in the thick of monsoons. At the end of that 200kms of bad stretch, I had almost given up and cried on the roadside. Touring in India is mostly about your endurance and patience. Most travelogues of bikers say how they were almost on the edge of giving up but somehow managed to push on when all odds were against them.

I have a travelogue of a friend, a biker who rode 8400km in 15 days on the Pulsar 200NS. And for Indian conditions that's a huge accomplishment. Have a go through it, it's pretty interesting.

Same bike somewhere in Indonesia, traversing 3ft+ of flood water.
*EDIT* Haha I just discovered that this Indonesian guy is also a member of the Indonesian chapter of the biking club called Naked Wolves(its a Pulsar 200NS exclusive biking club). I was the 150th member of the original chapter.

Lived in Bangalore for 6 months and used a bike to blast about and same in Goa. Great fun.

Quite a few Yamaha RS150's sneaking about but mostly Indian brands or Royal Enfields (which are built in Chennai)

Great to see people that love bikes so much as a nation.

Cheap petrol, great climate, endless MPG and a lack of any motoring laws can make up for the shortage of CCs as its brilliant fun

Hints of a s1000rr in the styling......until you get to the rear light cluster, ahh yes, the old "woman in labour" style. Nice.

Haha yes. "Its like the designer just couldn't quit adding more things".

Okay here's the last of the videos I would like to share. Bajaj commercials, they make awesome and sometimes overly cheesy commercials, and are quite fun to watch.

This one's one of the best motorcycle commercials I have watched and I bet you will watch it multiple times too -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caOInhi5e8c

Here's an overly cheesy one. "The fastest Indian" Rolling Eyes -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wJar6bHXCM

These commercials are 6-7 years old, and back then the Pulsar 220 was one of the fastest motorcycles in India(with a top speed of GPS indicated 145kmph). The roads back then barely allowed for a maximum of 110-120kmph though. Things have changed a lot since then.

This commercial takes a dig at the Japanese motorcycle companies -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUCL4yVymTs

Well, anyway thanks for reading and replying, felt good to share. Bajaj Pulsar has a special place in our hearts because it broke the grasp of the big 4 Japanese companies on the Indian market. The Japanese used to sell only overpriced, under performing, decade old 100cc bikes in India. But after the Bajaj Pulsar was introduced, it has mostly been Bajaj leading the motorcycle industry in India, and the Japanese trying to catch up with it. Imho Bajaj kickstarted the 'performance' oriented motorcycling culture in India, and many other developing countries of the world.

Needless to say, the Pulsar has a cult following around the world. I mean, a motorcycle which is lighter, faster, better handling, and much more refined than a Hyosung GT250R at an equivalent of GBP 900 was obviously an awesome motorcycle for the developing countries.

Its been exciting with all the famous European and American marques coming into India. Makes it that much more easier to buy a Daytona or a Street Triple(the best bikes for Indian roads if you ask me, litre class and above would be useless anyway).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2j5W13ZccMI
Notice how happy the host is about the arrival of the Daytona in India. Same reaction from me. Very Happy
