Where's my filtering?! 😜

Since start of the month I've been taking the bike in most days to work, Thursday I work late so took the car. Sat in traffic. When I wasn't sat in traffic I was looking on enviously at the other guys on bikes.

I went and filled up car as the wife had left it empty/standard. Thought thst would get me about 5 tanks lol. I normally look forward to the end of my day to get back on the bike, amazing how quickly you adjust going from one to the other.

I've been enjoying filtering and taking half my route on the dual carriageway. I was riding in on back roads before but recently thought I'll try the more direct route and lo and behold I'm still here, just don't when it's too wet or windy. Guess I'll just have to take the bike next time

I've found that now when I drive I get far more impatient than I used to because I can't filter/scoot through little gaps etc. A few weeks ago a guy was having his car put on an AA truck on a single track road, so I filtered past half a mile of traffic, scooted down the pavement and rode away on the other side to a completely empty road. I could sense the hatred Laughing

I find that i ride much more impatiently since I realised that car drivers are fuckwits with no lane disapline (i.e. move to the left out of the fucking way of faster traffic).

On the plus side, I've found that I can relieve the stress by 'undertaking' at a stupidly excessive speed after crawling all over the back of their car whilst flashing my headlight at them. For some reason they then move over and get in the right fucking lane.

What do you think? I'm planning on including the above in a novel that, as yet, is nothing more than a figment of my imagination....

A pet hate of mine is drivers who, on getting onto a dual carriageway, immediately go into the right hand lane because they are turning right 2 miles down the road. And then proceed to drive significantly below the limit on an otherwise empty road until they reach their turn, or for bonus points match speed precisely with a big and slow vehicle in lane 1.

Obviously that's not so much of an issue when you're on a bike and can push through the gap Very Happy

Its not the car, nor the bike.... its going to work!

Sat in the box, I would have the heater and the radio on; and want to do murder... what do they give Breakfast Show radio presenters? NO-ONE has the right to be THAT fucking chirpy first thing in the bludy morning!

"Hey!, look, its 8am, its another wet grey windy day in Birmingham, isn't it WONDERFUL!" NO! STFU and play some music!
If that's not bad enough, you have some twit trying to do a U turn or backing off a drive way holding up thirty cars who COULD get through that GREEN traffic light!
You sit there, frustrated, bored, and generally getting more and more pissed off with the world... before the day has even really started.

Bike. Coffee. Suit up. Start engine. Make sure engine is warm, hat, gloves; examine cars in street for frost on the windows and other tell-tale signs of what to expect. Mount up, stand up, pull away... ginger throttle, test ground conditions, choke 'off'. No bludy Early morning DJ! Filter to head of queue onto main road... have to stop two cars back, for the pillock that HAS to put his car two inches from the bollard so you cant get all the way. Arsole. Turn onto main road, open bike up, blast past, BRAKE.... yup, there he is EVERY bludy morning, he does it, backing out of that blind gap in the hedge, doing up his tie..... blocking twit back on number plate, suddenly realises why you have done an e-stop... tyres screech. Pull away. Turn left, wind on, three hundred yards, NSL sign, open the taps up a bit..... start picking marks, to pass the Mondeo men. Fifteen minutes, of intense concentration later, its into the city, and back to filtering; dodging the school run mums backing Scenics off drive ways at full pelt, white van men, changing lanes at the last minute at lights, and the blockers determined you WILL wait in the fucking queue like every-one else. Works car-park. Pull into shed. Take lock out of top-box. Fumble gloves and hat, lock bike up. Unzip jacket; head to toilets to warm hands under dryer and do super-man change into 'people' cloths.

Arrive at desk no sooner than you would have if you had come by car! At LEAST didn't have to put up with free-radio twat.

Car or bike, NEITHER is a 'joy'... bike is merely the lesser of evils.

At 30 years old; I gave up the hot hatches; bought a Granada Automatic with a nice sterio and an arm-chair to sit in.... if you cant-beat-em-join-em... realising that those forty minutes going to and from work, were about the only time truly 'mine' devoid of squabling kids and nagging missus, overbearing bosses, neurotic collegues and such... so may as well make the most of them! Comfy chair, nice noises, and as little 'driving' to do as possible.

Then go do something daft with a motorbike on a Sunday! Usually round a disused quarry!

I only live 2 miles from work, so have never taken the bike, its car every time.

A few on here have suffered by taking the bike to work every day, the commuting kills the fun when you go out on a jolly at the weekend.

I agree with Mike - a bit of time spent alone on the drive to work is cherished. That said, I live in Tewkesbury and not a big city, so its hardly a stressful commute.

+1.

I live two miles from work as well, used to just have my bike, and it was a bore getting kitted up etc.

Got a car now, and car is used for two and from work, bike is used for longer trips/fun.

Much better!

Car's boring as but at least it's dry and warm. Oh and yeah - radio 4 or a decent comp CDR you've knocked up. If the weather's good, bike every time though.

Not much choice in London. Two days ago the Euston victoria line was so jammed people couldn't fit into the platform. I was terrified I would be pushed onto the tracks at one point. I had to wait, surrounded by other pissed off commuters pressing in from all sides, for six trains to come and go before I could squeeze on.

F that. Motorcycle commute.
