Hi guys if i fill up and run tillthe bike starts cutting out, then switch to reserve, nothing changes, a light in the tank shows its empty... Both plastic tubes inside the tank are attatched to the tap , could this be a problem with the tap seals/ diaphragm??

Also, i seem to be using a LOT of fuel, admittedly i dont hang around and i do use ful rpm range, but im using a full tank of fuel on 90 miles!!!

If the tank's actually empty, then it sounds like something's up.

Are you sure the tap 'handle' is on the right way around? It shouldn't be possible to put it on backwards - so you think it's pointing one way when it's actually pointing the other - but I suspect it could probably be bodged on incorrectly if you really tried...

Doesn't sound right at all. I fill my XJ600n up at ~180-190 miles, and it's not on reserve at that point (although getting close, judging by how much petrol goes in to fill up). I'm not on full throttle constantly, but I'm not going out of my way to ride as efficiently as possible either, so 90 miles is waaaaay off what you should expect.

Hi there thanks for replying Smile the tank is definately empty when i switch to reserve :/ as for the tap being on the wrong way im not sure, as it turns to all 3 positions no problem at all, how would i go about ensuring it is on correctly? As it stands at the moment, down is on, middle is prime and up is reserve??

As for fuel consumption im not sure whats going on :/ i have just fitted a new chain and sprocket kit as the old set were knackered, im having other issues with the bike too which i geuss i will have to resolve first before i can get an accurate mpg reading. Heres to hoping the chain etc will help!!!

Hi

Might also be possible to reassemble the fuel tap incorrectly so that normal pickup is taken from the bottom of the tank.

My Divvy did about 45mpg in normal use (not that great on fuel), but still way better than you are getting.

All the best

Keith

Aha! How would i test this scenario? Fill up and run on reserve? Or pull things apart?? Very Happy

Your tap positions are the same as mine, so that's not the problem - but Kickstart's suggestion is possible; somebody might have reassembled it wrong so the on / reserve pickups are reversed?

I guess so - turn it to the reserve position, fill up, and see what happens? If it cuts out when you've still got 1/4 of a tank left, then yes, your on / reserve positions are effectively reversed.

That still wouldn't explain why you're getting less than half the normal mileage off a tank of fuel, though, so there's something else going on. Any sign of fuel leaks?

FWIW, I get 60-65mpg on my Divvy. You're managing around 24 (!!) if you're only getting 90 miles off an (actually) full tank, running to empty.

Thanks for the advice everyone, i will fill her right up tomorrow and run her on reserve and see what happens. No signs of fuel leaking and the fuel level isnt going down when its parked up. Ive even sniffed my oil a few times a week just to make sure its not seeping past the valve seals, no smell of petrol.

Going to check oil, plugs , choke, before i fill up incase anything is wrong.

Has anyone experienced clunky gear changes on this bike? Have the common clutch basket rattle but cant seem to get smooth gear changes on her :\

Don't know if it's a common Divvy trait, but mine certainly appreciates oil changes - the gear changes start to get a bit clunky as I approach the service interval, and become a bit smoother once I drop the oil and put fresh in. Could be worth changing the oil if you've got a clunky gear change and don't know how old the oil is.

Hi

Gearchange getting nasty was also a sign with mine that the clutch thrust bearing was on its last legs.

All the best

Hi

I just got them from Yamaha. They are not difficult to change (although Haynes tells you to just lube it with engine oil, the Yamaha manual says to use molybendium disulfide grease).

All the best

Hi mattfender666

Keiths right, the clutch does get temperamental when the thrust bearing is worn. Although at the best of times the gearchange is not the best.
If you want a new bearing, SIMPLY BEARINGS on the internet sell them and the thrust washers.

Needle Roller Cage and Roller Assembly 15x28x2mm Prod no.. AXK1528
Thrust Washer Series AS 15x28x1 mm.. Prod no. AS1528

About £5 covers it.
Good luck

PS I get about 60 mpg from a 600 divvy
