Went to look at one today. I've posted some links to
flicks below.

Year 2000 45K miles, no service history. Current owner is retired and has owned it from 2008 and done very little miles and likely just changed the oil once.

HPI is clear and is showing 5 owners.

Needs tidied cosmetically. Chrome down pipes are a bit corroded but the rest of the exhaust is ok. Fork legs are corroded a fair bit.
Some bubbling of the black engine paint and some paint missing underneath engine. Lots of fasteners have rust but tank and mudguards are ok.

Starts from cold ok, no smoke and seems to run well on a short test run.

Basically It looks like it's been commuted on all year round for several years.

MOT'd for a year and taxed for 6 months. Tyres and chain look decent. Basically ready to ride away. Seller wants 2 grand.

I know there's not much love for cruisers on BCF but this is a borderline cruiser Smile with the Triumph 900 Triple engine.

Worth a punt to smoke about on at this condition/miles/price?

Here's the MCN review.

better nick and a lot less miles sold for

£2555 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRIUMPH-LEGEND-900-/171259383010?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item27dfdacce2

and

£2655 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Legend-TT-/251477110437?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item3a8d342ea5

That said I'd buy it it's a lovely bike just I'd try to force the price down a little more based on the high mileage.

Thanks for the links.

The only other one for sale locally is 3.1K out of a Triumph dealer.

16K miles and better nick.

I'm thinking the bike is durable enough for high miles but how hard would it be to shift on if I end up not liking it?

cheap version of the thunderbird, they (thunderbirds) fetch stupid money in good condition, like £4500 for a really nice one and £5500 for a concours

downpipes are something like £370 each plus vat (two of them)

fork legs will be cheaper to rechrome

future classic either way

I suspect you could pass it on without a loss fairly easily. Even if you don't like it as a daily ride I'd be tempted to restore it and keep it as Andys675 says future classic.

Future classic my arse. Lumpy old original triple with a truly annoying exhaust sound. Love the way the engine breather oil seal fails, gradually filling the airbox (whilst emptying the sump) before depositing said oil all over the rear of the 'bike'. Made for the Yanks, should not have been inflicted on intelligent people.

Hi

Done a few miles on a Thunderbird (Charlotte has one), although a late one with the 6 speed gearbox.

Finish is not great although not that bad. Forks have corroded on here (~£100 each leg for pattern ones). Centre stand is a pig (hers has the dog bones from a Legend on it, which has lowered the back a bit but means you pretty much need to lift it onto the stand - bye bye back). Brakes are OK, but of the quick seize variety. Coils can be short lived.

Not keen on the power delivery. Seems to make no difference whether you are in 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th gear. As peak torque is at fairly low rpm and then drops away, much of what you gain from being in a lower gear you lose from less engine umph at higher revs. Gearbox is OK.

All the best

Keith
