Went to look at an MT-03 today, the guy wanted £2150 but I discovered the exhaust was blowing, something he genuinely didn't seem to have realised. Made him an offer of 1900 but he didn't want to go below 2k, so I gave it a miss and went to look at this:

https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/15/13/82/47/yamaha10.jpg
The guy wouldn't go below £2350, it was his wife's and she was pregnant, but I bought it 11,000 miles, good condition, only issue I think is the clutch switch isn't working (not tried it yet). Rode it back and I've not stopped tingling, it's so f**king ASBO I love it
Gotta be a bit careful as you don't realise the speed your doing on it, and the engine braking is very aggressive, I had the rear stepping out in the dry :s Also it does (as I feared) take a million point turn to get it into my garden, but I don't care.
Oh yeah I can't seem to get the steering lock on, the guy did so I must be doing something wrong Steering fully to the left, tried pushing the key down & turning and just turning the key but can't get it to work. Will have a better look in the morning. ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

Steering lock will not prevent anyone stealing your bike* but it will make them damage it more in doing so.
I wouldn't bother with it if I were you.
*Source: Helped a BCF member a few weeks back get his broken down bike out of the back yard of a terraced house, along the back lane and loaded into a Vito van with the steering lock still on. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. A mate had an attempted theft of his CBF, attempted and not successful cos they couldn't get the steering lock off (maybe they weren't v.good thieves ). Also gonna need a new bike cover as my (large) Lidl one won't cover the bike properly, any recommendations? ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

My bike needs a little wiggle of the bars as you engage the steering lock. Stumped me for a few days before I realised what I had to do.
Worth using as it delays them just getting on it and pushing it or hotwiring it. If they want it they'll have it but the least you can do is make it difficult to just wheel away.
OP, that's a stunning bike. I would lose my admittedly non-existent bike licence on that very quickly |

Nah standard, the one I went to see & didn't buy had an Akrapovic exhaust (with a hole in). ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

And the chains slack? I know I could have got a Hornet or something for the same money, but for what I use it for (around town) it's alright. Only things I don't like (so far) are the clunky gearbox & jerky power delivery (at low speeds), but both I can live with. ____________________ Yamaha MT-03 '08 (crashed)

Right now I think I'd go for the 03 over a hornet. I mean, I know the latter is "the better bike" - il4 smooth, cbr pedigree, sweet looks, good low height, fast, handles, stops, blah. But I did really quite like the torquey pull of that big single - and basically I want one more than a hornet. For whatever wrong set of reasons.
Bad question alert - how hard would it be to put a bog standard round light on the front of an mt-03? Could you "just" get a universal bracket and off we go or is it all kinds of aggro? Also, would a pair of stripple esque dommies look good? I personally think they would. At any rate, they would totally change the look of the bike I reckon. ____________________ "Life is a sexually transmitted disease and the mortality rate is one hundred percent."
