hey guys

yesterday my bike started makin a funny electrical noise when i was riding it, so i pulled over into the petrol station and turned the key off. To my suprise the bike was still trying to start, even with the key out. Its like its constantly tryin to fire up....took it to the garage but they cant look at it till tommorrow. but they suested its probablym water caught in it.

any ideas anyone else had this problem? when im riding its trying to fire up and when i stop it still trys to fire up. only when i rev it over 6000rpm does it stop for about 5-10 seconds.

Thanks zeano

It's firing the starter motor solenoid even when the ignition is off? And constantly?

First things first I would disconnect the battery, then starter and check all connections - is anything looking like it's been bypassed or messed with?

What's the history of the bike? Has anyone had a go at the ignition barrel? Has it got all the original keys?

Jaaayzus, you really did put your head in the noose there. That's the "immaculate" one, right, with no V5C or VED?

It's an electrical short. It could just be the wet shorting the relay, or a stuck starter switch, but I'm going to go with: hotwired.

If you put your location in your profile, someone may take pity and go and have a look, if for no better reason than to see if the VIN has been filed off.

But is it yours...

Have you done a full HPI check?

You've bought a bike, with no real V5 so you can't check the VIN is correct.

Against the plate though, not the VIN.

Eh, don't mind us, we feed on suffering. Drooling

This is really simple stuff. Electricity is getting to the starter when it shouldn't. A multimeter and 5 minutes should diagnose it, or just douse the switchgear and wiring with WD-40. Heck, it's likely fine now that it's dried out.

Hotwired though.

I once had a similar issue with my CBF. I was riding home from college and everytime I pulled the clutch in I heard this electrical whining noise like a motor. I assumed the worse and thought "great something is up with the clutch". Continued to ride home non the less. Got home and then realized that the starter button had got jammed in. Rolling Eyes
