Hi guys.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out. I'm currently doing up my 2010 125 Suzuki Marauder ready to be sold, because I've crossed over to the dark side and am now driving a car.

I'm servicing it, changing the chain and sprockets, cause they haven't been done at all while I've had it. But I noticed quite a bit of rust on the swingarm and a few other areas.

I'm wondering, what's the best way to repair it? Or should I just leave it and sell it how it is? Or should I just get a new swingarm?

Tried using ACF-50, but it didn't seem to help as much as I wanted, and with riding in the grit during last winter, it's just got progressively worse.

Here's a few pictures:

hi,
doesnt look good for a 4yr old bike....
i usually remove swingarm & if i can get a decent s/h replacement for less than 40 quid, i might buy it.( seeing as it only costs 40 quid for it to be blasted & powdercoated)
have you looked at a parts diagram to see if its worth removing & changing? can you remove it & manage to save the seals/bushes etc?
something to think about before you remove it.
if its only surface rust/paint flaking off, a cheap fast "bodge" is to wire brush it & paint with hammerite,
cheers,
GAZ

Yea unfortunately. A combination of being kept outside all the time due to not having a garage, riding in the rain, and salt gritted roads has finally took it's toll after 7k miles.

From what I can tell, it is just surface rust. As I said, I tried to slow down the process by applying ACF-50.

As for removing the S/A. Doesn't sound like too much of a major job. I'll have a look at how bad the rust is when I'm changing the sprockets and chain, and see weather or not it'll be worth looking into how to do it properly. Just looking on ebay, they are about £20 - £40, so not too expensive.

Thanks for the advice buddy.

Mine went down the exact same path after riding it through winter.

I took the swingarm off, attacked it with a wire brush in a drill to get rid of as much of the rust as I could. I then stuck 3 coats of primer on it and 3 coats of black (both rattle cans) and it looked a fairly decent job in the end.

This was it when I sold it (20k Miles on the clock)

One thing I will say of note, the spaces on the swingarm pivot are not the same length on each side, so make sure they go back on the right way or you'll never get the swingarm back on as I found out Embarassed
