Hi Everyone,

Having a niggly problem with the bandit. When im going up to and over 8k revs the needle jumps around and it sounds rough when it does it. Almost like its spluttering/misfiring.

Does it in all gears, warm or cold. Sure it wasnt doing that over winter Crying or Very sad

Hello! Mine does the same around 5-6k rpm i googled it when i first noticed it and found its a common bandit/bike issue at varying rpm ranges. Same bike also k2 600s blue

At the moment i just power threw it and its smooth after that range again.

Would be interested to hear if you find a solution so tagging this thread for updates.

My mk2 bandit 600 (the same as yours) doesn't ever do that? Runs fine throughout the whole rev range whether i'm cruising or pinning it.

Does it have the standard air box on?

The tacho takes it's signal from the black and yellow coil ground from the 2/3coil, which is grounded through the ECU so if the needle is jumping AND the engine is misfiring it's probably a fault on that wire, or in the loom, or (more likely) the red kill switch on the handlebars going faulty from vibes at 8k momentarily killing the ignition. It could also be the coil for 2/3 going bad (unlikely) or even the power feed to the coils (maybe a crack in the fuse).

I would start by changing the No3 fuse, because that's easiest.
Next I would check the coil spade connections especially the 2/3 coil to see if any are very loose.
Next I would un-plug the ECU and check the terminals aren't corroding.
After that I would strip down the kill switch and check the contacts. This is a favourite if people have got a lot of water in there from cleaning/jetwashing, or if the bar ends have been removed.

Here's a wiring diagram for aK4, it's very similar if not exactly the same.

Hmm interesting, never bothered looking as thought it was just normal going by Google. Will def follow this thread closely. I do use a pressure washer on it so will try the suggestions.

As for air box I'm not sure will picture it at weekend, there is a few bits of bling on it from previous owners so possibly.

Partial success.

Found a loose bolt on right hand side, front engine mount bracket. The bolt with an o-ring was way out not even touching the o-ring! nipped it up.

Quick test ride after allot of vibration is gone and can happily cruise at 70 mph now without getting good vibrations in the nether region.

It's still got a noticeable vibe on hitting 5k rpm, so perhaps another bolt loose or this one still isn't tight enough didn't want to horse it up to much with the entire weight of engine still on it and it only being an Allen head.

Should i take the weight with a jack and nip it up that way or is it good to go as is?

Also i did check all the above and all seems well.

Hopefully a bit more persistence and a few more nip ups and its sorted.

Thanks for suggestions.

Edit-

Airbox cover is stamped suzuki 31fo not sure if thats standard.

You will probably find a similar number on the side of your carbs, looks like a standard airbox.

As for dodgy wires, there are 3 or 4 plugs that go under the tank where the frame meets the headstock. The big yellow one can cause a boat load of issues with starting and running.

When I first got my 1200, the day before my mod 2 training started and then test the following day, I changed the spark plugs in mine only to find the damn thing wouldn't start.

I had inadvertently disturbed the yellow plug. It took a few hours to work it out but once cleaned and put back together it fired up.

Always worth a check if you suspect electrical issues.

I was told to just use standard plugs and change more regularly with the 1200. I'm pretty sure the iridium don't work well on the bandits.

Big discovery i think.

Found the exhaust can itself is rattling from inside, on removing it i've found the inner liner is loose. On tapping the exhaust you clearly hear a metal to metal rattle. Or at 5k rpm is rattles. Before or after not really noticeable.

https://i59.tinypic.com/2znsmrc.jpg

Inner freely slides out till near the end. End of the inner tube looks to be slightly damaged.

Need advise how to fix this or if i have to replace.

Thanks.
