Hi Guys,
Im new to all of this so sorry if this has already been posted!
I am just wandering if anyone has any mods they have done to their CBF 125s and if they are any good? I am half tempted in an exhaust and would like a top box possibly? Also had a think about the extended front screen? Anyone got anything they have done to make it ride better or look better / sound better?

Cheers in advance!

Tom

It's a 125....just put your top box on, leave it alone you wont add value or make it any better.

.
A turbo and an orange power band are the most popular performance modifications. Thumbs Up

Offsetting the rear arm by 10 degrees and replacing the fork oil with 10% more of olive oil will considerably improve the handling.

Also consider adjusting the chain as tight as you can get it for better acceleration.

Passing your test and losing the L plates would be a good start.

Failing that, plaster it in ACF50 to stop the rust Wink

Hello...

I have owned a cbf for 18 months and as stated in the first post, dont go looking for any peformance mods. The money, time and effort will not gain you anything remotely worth while.

I fitted a rack and top box for when i ride to work, and a givi taller screen. Thats as far as i would go (even the screen is questionable).
My advice would be to spend the time and money on WD40 and keeping it clean and tidy, so you can sell it for more when you want to buy a bigger bike (They do tend to rust if you are not careful).

Unfortunately you cant polish a turd in to something its not Neutral

Hope this helps.... Thumbs Up

i have the scorpion carbon pipe, it does not do much at all however it sounds a lot better, looks a lot better and means my bike is not identical to everybody elses, i have a puig double bubble screen which is brilliant!

oh and tyres, everybody seems to use pilot sportys i myself use pirelli mt75 and they are brilliant so much better than the shit that comes with them

The best performance mod is to take the L plates off.

If you want people to think you're a cock;

Scorpion pipe will add 0bhp, makes it sound like a pitbike & cost you £279.99. Top box is a poor call as costs loadsa money. unless you're riding courier I wouldnt bother. It looks gay too.

Spend the money like this instead;

Get some EBC HH sintered pads, an air filter, plug, some quality 10W40, a sump washer, a set of pilot sportys & a 150pcs Halfords professional toolkit. Oh and a haynes would be sweet too.

Then go out humiliating all the posey 4t 125 supersports with a bike that'll corner, stop & go perfectly, and impressing your mates with the newfound mechanical skills you've gained. A bike that runs like a swiss watch & is a pleasure to ride is preferable to a noisy slow one eh? Wink Thumbs Up

Sounds probably the best, I wont bother moding the engine for performance as lets face it its a 125 commuter! Anyone recomend the higher screen? Cheers for all your advice by the way!! Starting to feel like part of the bike community hahaha!!

Laughing Laughing Laughing what the hell are you on about?

The bike weighs nothing, better pads will just make it lock up as the brakes are pretty good anyway.

Air filter, pretty pointless it's a 125 it isn't even a 2 stroke you wont even gain 0.1bhp out of it or feel any gains, or make the bike any more reliable.

Spark plug, not sure what difference this is going to make, it's not a 2 stroke so you don't need to go hot or cold with it, an NGK will be just as good as a Denso,

Oil, not sure what difference that is going to make it's not like Castrol is going to give you more performance than Yamlube.

A sump washer, well you will need that for an oil change....but what about a filter? No mention of that.

The contis that are on the CBF as standard are pretty good, I've had it rather lower.

Alternatively as it is new and still worth money, let Honda service it for the service history, don't go dicking about with it if you don't know what you're doing, buy a CG for that or you will end up with a CBF worth less than everyone elses

Go out humiliating sporty 125s? Both bikes do the same speed you spacker that just leaves rider talent, I've kept up with bigger bikes on my CG, I was once overtaken by two CBR600's....I was drinking tea before them....similar to leaving an R6 standing through the country lanes on my RS125......similar to sitting up the arse of a 916 going pretty quick whilst riding the danger SV.

Iain your advice in this thread is like your parking skills.....shit.

OP
Put a topbox on if you want a topbox, put a larger screen if the wind is annoying you, get it serviced at dealer if it has FSH as that will help maintain the value of the bike more than anything else. Ride it, enjoy it and don't waste any money on it.

I am still making use of the dealership for servicing and i am intending to do up one of my old bike (BSA Bantam) for learning mechanics on. I think that I probably wont bother with modding this bike from what feedback i have had from this post Smile thanks for the advice though people and if you have any ideas or things you would recomend for it please keep posting!!

I agree with pits....

Save the money on modifying it.

Spend it on servicing and a can of ACF50.

The Conti Go! tyres they come with are just as good as the Pilot Sporty. The brakes are better than the ones on my Z750.

None really, just wait for the fuel pump to pack up, it will start jerking around which is about the only unreliable part of the CBF, which Iains advice wont fix. Thumbs Up

ACF50 is anti-corrosion right? My old man has some 50's bikes and sprays them with GT-85 or WD-40 after a wash which he claims prevents the rust and is also cheaper than ACF50. Should i use GT-85 / WD-40 or use ACF50?

Cheers

WD-40 is a water displacer that people abuse for other uses. I haven't tried GT-85. I have tried ACF-50 and my £720 Chinese bike-in-a-box didn't rust in 3 winters of all weather use.

It's expensive, but less than a tank of fuel and cheaper than the parts that it's protecting.

Actually, I bought a litre bottle of it which I'll probably be buried with, to preserve me until Judgement Day.

Agreed, I actually quite like the Conti Go! Aesthetically they look like they are crap, but they get up to temp quick and grip very well.

The brakes are also very good, I always look like a noob when I take the CBF out, pull up with some front brake and just come to a dead stop and bounce around like a game of buckaroo.

Agreed with the ACF50, and just keep it clean as the newer Honda 125s their exhausts seem to last about 10 minutes before peeling.

Biggest thing to do is to not listen to people who have no experience of a certain bike and recommend oil changes without oil filters and can't understand what double yellow lines mean, I guess what I am saying is don't listen to Iain. Mr. Green Thumbs Up

The ONLY modification to mine, other than a sail (top box) and heated grips, was to change the plug for an iridium one. Just so the dealers would stop replacing it every 1500 miles. It was mainly for longer life, it did seem to make it a little smoother.

As said, brakes are pretty keen for a bike that size, pretty much everything works. Coat in ACF/WD whatever, then cling film wrap, don't ride unless there is 0 humidity and on a road with zero grime. It might not rust then.

have to agree with the above, the brakes on the cbf are perfectly good, ive tryeda couple of e-stops and even with my not - insignificant weight, it stops pretty damn quickly. I can also scrape the pegs (which is NOT advisable Shocked ) on the contis, although I suspect with my 10 miles a road commute with almost no turns, i'm going to need a new rear at 7.5 - 8k

I had a set of those Conti's on my GPZ500, I couldnt even make the things let go as much as I tried! ( they even got all bobbly on the edges!)

When I worked for Honda, we used to have a fleet of training school CBF's. I managed to tuck the front the brakes were that good.

DEFINITELY keep an eye on the oil level. They burn oil.

I have already had a new engine due to the oil consumption. luckily honda replaced it as it was under warranty! Apart from that no issues except i hit a pot hole and now the front wheel is squeeking. i thought it could be the tyre rubbing on the mud guard but its not. possible buckle?

might be mistaken but I belive the wheels are cast alloy, which would crack, not buckle.

my engine burned approx. 250ml of oil before its 600 mile service, but not a drop since. also, I have never had any problemns with the fuel pump, not have either of the 2 other people I know who have / had them. obviously it does happen, but there you are.
