3 bikes into what van?

Hi folks,

Quick question. What's the smallest/cheapest to rent van I can fit a CBR600, Daytona 675 and a Gixxer thou into? I'm guessing a SWB transit would be too small... I know my mates Fiat Scudo will definitely only take 2 road bikes.

Not much help to you, but when I picked up my KMX, I asked for a SWB transit, and got a LWB Sprinter as that's all they had left. I think even 3bikes would feel lost in there, but if your hiring a van and get it at the same price as a smaller van then who cares! Laughing

Simple take the width of the bikes And add some room to be able to manoeuvre between them to tie them down, and make sure there is tie down points along the insides of the van because when you go around a corner that's where the fun begins also when braking hard or pulling away fast, if not secured down properly with a ratchet type version, as they will eventually slide around in the back disturbing the balance of the van.

It will help if you tie wrap the brake levers back to prevent the possibility the bike rolling backwards/forwards to prevent undue strain on the tie downs too. Also, put a wedge or something to stop them sliding on the smooth wooden surface interior of the van.

Into a SWB (lotop) Transit I've got a race SV650 (full fairings), GSXR750K1 and Triumph 675. A bit of a squeeze. It only had single rear wheels, double would have made it worse.
Had a load of other stuff in there too, so it was pretty packed.

Thanks. We can dismantle them further if required, might be a case of putting the CBR and Gixxer in normally against the sides and wedging the trumpet in backwards between them.

[Hopefully not stating the obvious!] Smallest doesn't mean cheapest, at least not with the vans and cars I've rented.

I was about to suggest you'd probably JUST get them in a SWB transit if you don't mind them leaning on one another a bit.

Those VW transporter ones are pretty huge. Or a sprinter because you can definately get two in a vito.

Transporter is the same size as a vito - can comfortably get two bikes in. I've had 3 thinner bikes in ok.
VW's sprinter-sized van is the LT35 etc (large transporter, I believe). Could get 3 bikes in this across ok.
After these, a luton/box width will make it a good bit easier.

Citreon relay, Peugeot boxer, fiat ducato. All basically the same, I got 5 yes 5 complete bikes in my mwb semi high. 3 zx6r's an sr125 and a cg125.

They are made of ticky tacky shite but my 2.5 diesel cost £400 did 35mpg and 60,000 miles with nothing more than basic servicing and a wheel bearing. Just check gearbox for crunches and sills, rear cross member and front arches for rust.

I have used sprinters, transporters and transits and non beat the frenchies for practicality and economy.
