Bit new to all this carburettor lark. Mine's running shit again after sticking new plugs and oil in, so reckon carbs need a good clean and balance.

Fingers crossed I got the weekend off and can spend it covered in oil Very Happy

Found this on Ebay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-MOTORCYCLE-CARB-BALANCER-VACUUM-GAUGE-TOOL-/331219340105?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item4d1e360b49

But unsure of compatibility with my model?

Tis a 2002 V2 XL125. Recommendations please?

It can balance them between each other so they both pull the same vacuum - but as far as I can tell - it cant tell you what that vacuum is.

May or may not be so useful, because in the bike manual there is usually specs for the vacuum strength
E.G the vacuum should be between x and xx mm/hg (what ever it is measured in)
and all carbs should be within xx mm/Hg of each other.

that tool will only enable you to get them same - It wont tell if the vacuum is too high or low.

Something like this is much more user friendly
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CARB-VACUUM-GAUGES-2-Cyl-Synchroniser-Carb-Balancer-/360276994881?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item53e22eab41

And if it doesnt measure in whats quoted in the manual you can google for a conversion chart...

Edit:

If you want to be really cheap you can use 2 gauges
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vacuum-Gauge-for-Air-Fuel-Oil-or-Water-40mm-0-30-Hg-0-1-Bar-1-8-BSPT-Bottom-/130956919808?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e7da40400

A bit of vacuum hose normal small bore tubing will probably collapse)

and two of these to stop the needles bouncing

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3x-4-6mm-inline-Aquarium-Airline-Connector-Control-Valve-T-style-air-line-regula-/161067807822?pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Reptiles_Spiders_Insects&hash=item258063b44e

Fasten the gauges to a scrap of wood and have the taps a few inches below the gauges, the rest of the pipe runs down and connects to carbs.

That should keep you out of trouble at the weekend Wink

Karma Thumbs Up

Going for the first one you posted. Haven't got much space/tools for a lot of DIY malarkey. Cheers for that!

Very similar to the one he original posted in the way it works - absolutely fine for getting them all the same - just sometime you need to know what "the same" is Thumbs Up

If you get gauges rather than the mercury ones, make sure that they have some sort of baffle fitted....otherwise the needles will jump all over the place and be totally useless Wink

I've never really taken much notice of the readings, just that they're in synch.

Thats what the little taps are for in first gauge i posted Wink

Ordered the gauge once Gav posted. Will be dismantling bike on the weekend at a mate's garage.

Engine is very hesitant at low RPM, has a very sooty black rear plug, and to be honest, sounds a bit mullered on the top end. To be expected rom a 125 engine with 58k on though I suppose...
