Just a quick one please guys,

After passing CBT & Theory in the last few weeks on Saturday I have a riding assessment to see where about' I go with regards to lessons etc, I am hoping that with Mod 1 being about manuvers I will be in for the test sooner rather than later as I do feel confident on most of it.

My question is really how long did it take everyone to pass their test from CBT to finish, will I be looking at ages or is it a fairly rapid process.

I already can't seem to stop looking at the next step up in bikes Smile

From a few days (course where you book both tests on the same day and hope you pass MOD1 because otherwise you lose your MOD2 fee) to never Smile

Took me just over a month from scratch, but mainly that was due to work and not being able to arrange test dates that didn't clash with stuff I couldn't hand off to other people to cover.

Good question. I personally got a cbt in August of 2012 - I had an idea that I'd do Mods 1 and 2 on it before the law changed in Jan of 2013. But for whatever bullshit reasons I didn't, and it wasn't until June 18th of last year that I'd got the fully monty. I got mod 1 in April iirc, first roll of the dice. Took two throws to get mod 2 though.

This.

It all depends on how quickly you can master slow control for mod 1. The hardest part is the slow control. It is all stuff you learnt on the CBT.

Second hardest is hitting the speed required for the 2 high speed elements. Swerve and E stop.

November to April for me but I only had weekly lessons and most of December off. I wasn't in a rush though so it didn't bother me.

Entirely up to you and depends on age and funds. If neither is an issue, it can all be done in a week (CBT, 4 days DAS and then tests - someone did that when I was training). I would not personally recommend it though, but others do.

My personal choice was ride 125 around for a year then tests. Gave me lots of experience with a very forgiving bike. If I had to do it all again I'd not wait as long, but will still give myself 3 months at least.

Thanks for the info guys, I knew it would be difficult to answer as everyone has there own learning speed.

I did my CBT about 6 weeks ago now, passed the theory on Wednesday just gone and go for my riding assessment on Saturday, I did ask the training centre if they did a 3 or 4 day DAS crash course with the mod 1 test at the end but they were a bit vague answering and said it would be easier after Saturday to see what training I needed.

I suppose in one sense it does make sense no point in paying for a crash course if they think I can do Mod 1 with minimal training, I do own a 125 Varadero so have been practicing a lot, I suppose I will no more on Saturday then I guess.

I did DAS, so about 4 days.

Do the assessment, they will get an idea of how much work you will need. Tempting to push for as little as possible but do consider that you'll probably feel a lot more confident on your tests with more training and tests with bike rental aren't exactly cheap.

At 17 I passed my test after about 6 months on the roads, what must have been about 3k or 4k miles and with no lessons. But that was one test, none of this mod 1 & mod 2 bollocks that you have these days. Razz

After being on a 125 for a few months I did a 3.5 day DAS course. Because of the miles i racked up on the 125 my instructor was happy for me to do it all, including both tests, in 3.5 days.

So far 3 years, 2 CBTs, 2 theory tests, and 2 failed mod 1's. The CBT and Theory Tests were 2 years apart tho, had to stop lessons due to family issues a couple of years back. The Mod1 fails were the past month or so, pushing on to get the licence sorted in the next few weeks.

For me I passed my CBT in August 2013, passed my mod 1 in April this year and I've got my mod 2 on the 24th of this month.

Okay, it's only for my A1 licence (I'm 21 so I could do A2, but I can't afford a bigger bike anyway) but I didn't get a bike until February this year and I've had 1 lesson. Even that was after mod 1 - I booked mod 1, turned up and passed it first go. The lesson was just to make sure I wasn't doing anything major wrong and the instructor said I was fine and shouldn't have a problem on my mod 2.

As others have said, it's totally dependant on what your riding is like now and how quickly you pick things up. I haddnt ridden for about 7 years, even back then it was only a 50/125. I done a CBT I February no riding till last week then a DAS course, about 30 min on the mod 1 bits then 3 5 hour days of riding on the road. All done in a week.

You've been riding anyway so it should just be a case of dotting the I's and crossing the t's

Took me about three months but that was having a DAS lesson every couple of weeks and failing each of the Mods once.
I reckon I got more out of it spreading it out a bit - gave me time to mentally absorb what I'd learnt so I could apply it properly next lesson. YMMV...
