Hello all sorry for car question but need be.

Mrs divetime has a 1.2 clio 8v it’s the D7F engine

It starts fine no issues but as engine temp starts to go up the idle gets lumpy almost like a miss fire and the idle starts to drop to around 700RPM ish.

I have replaced all the plug’s it has had a service Plugs looked good nice colours
When driving there is no issues pulls fine no hesitation just at idle.

All plugs are sparking, cut spark to each cylinder at a time and the engine sound changes with each one. I Have cleaned the throttle body and the idle air valve still no better

Would the valve clearance cause this do you think?

How is your coolant level? Is the fan cutting in? Could be the head gasket starting to fail . May be worth getting it sniff tested.

Do you know anyone with a OBD reader that can be plugged in? Might show a fault code pointing to the problem.

Lambda/Mass airflow sensors gone. Brothers old Peugeot which shares the engine with the Clio did the same.

.........does it really? Renault engine in a Peugeot or Peugeot engine in a Renault.........are you sure? Usually only find Peugeot based engines in Citroens, Fords, Rovers, and some Fiats and Volvos I thought....I could be wrong though

You are correct, I am wrong..... how the hell I got a clio confused with a saxo I don't know. I'm tired!

I still would be taking a look at the MAF or Lambda tho.

Quickly check there isn't a crack in the pipe AFTER the maf sensor, won't take you long, while not directly affected by heat it may cause the pipe to expand and expose the pipe/hole that little bit more to cause and issue and let DAS pirate air in

Lumpy once the auto choke has opened up?

MAF or attached vacuum pipe.

I would've expected a fault code if it was the MAF itself though. Similarly a failed Lambda sensor (as per other suggestions) would throw a check engine light as well.

Does the engine light illuminate with the key turned but the engine off?

Thanks for the reply’s

-I have checked the coolant level still on max and no tell tale signs of head gasket.

-Sprayed carb cleaner round the intake side for vacuum leaks but no change that makes me think there is a vacuum leak.

Fisty – I have been thinking the lambda may be playing up. There is no engine lights on I have a scanner OBD2 and there is a OBD2 socket on the car but it will not connect I know the scanner works as I have used it on another car, apparently it has a OBD2 socket but I need a OBD1 scanner to read the protocol on the car (Fuck knows POS) Middle Finger

Bidding on a Haynes manual on the bay but some shit head had me.

Dose any one know of a test or the ohms reading for the lambda sensor could it be coked up and need cleaning Question

o yeah its a W reg think 2000 year Thumbs Up

Coolant temp sensor (CTS) is shagged, the give away is the "when cold its fine, when warm its crap",
replace sensor and disconnect the battery to reset the ecu when you do it,( yes these still arent nvm`s),
Let me know how you get on.

Can also be a sticky or non functioning idle control valve

Mine and the sister in laws Clio's do this too. Almost like a misfire when hot and idling.

I've replaced 4 coil packs, 4 injectors and the fuel rail. 4 spark plugs too.

Given up as it's fine when it's moving plus, replacing a couple of sensors is more than the car's worth now.

The manifold is blowing on mine so I put it down to the O2/Lambda getting too much fresh air in there and messing up the mixture. Also thought of the coolant temp switch too - i've got a small hole in the rad which leaks coolant slowly (which i forget to top up regularly) - could be that too.
