Could this have been cuasing the fuel going into oil?

a litte more context would be helpful too, what bike, is it gravity fed carbs.
over filling may cause fuel to leak down the intake and seep around the rings into the sump oil if the needle didnt seat correctly

this wont be very helpful, but i did find your problem
Hyosung gt125

the chances of needles being the primary issue is very slim, clean with some carb cleaner and reiinstal.

have you checked the vacuum pump, ie is shutting off. if it shuts off when the bike is off, you will need to attacth the carb to the fuel feed and position as though they were on the cylinder (but not on the cylinders, pull vaccum (suck on the pipes from intake rubbers), it will take a while for the carbs to fill (once you have a vacuum on the pipe, stick your tonk over the wholes, it make it alot easier to breath), once they are full, they will start to over flow if there is an issue

The only way to tell is to replace it, usually along with its seat. You will need to check/adjust the float height afterwards - sometimes aftermarket ones are a slightly different length, which will screw up the float height.

Valves have no lines/grooves so they seem ok.
Float height is a bit of a grey area. The service manual says 17mm BUT it has been said on numerous occasions that this was a misprint? It says 17mm on 2 different sections in the manual? Can they be wrong twice? No one seems to know the proper height if the height in the manual is actually wrong. Does 17mm sound about right?
I will be checking the pump tomorrow. Carbs have 82.5 main jets in both. Supposed to be an 87.5 in front and a 90 in rear. I was thinking maybe I could use a clamp on the fuel line when the bike is stood to see if that could stop any fuel going to carbs as a temp. measure. Thoughts on this please? Thanks for help and patience!

Hi Dave,

It was green gunk and it came off easily with a good soak in carb cleaner. Looks like new! Is it likely to keep happening? Cheers.
