Hi there,

I'm completely new to biking, and as such have settled on a 2001 CG125 to get started on before progressing. I've purchased what I believe is referred to as a 'nostalgia model' - possibly only available in japan when it was first launched.

My question is about the battery, and any help would be greatly appreciated. I THINK my bike is 12v, but that may be wrong and it may only be 6v. The problem is that I can never find this particular model in listings when looking for parts.

I want to ensure I get the right battery for it, but I've currently got it stored away from home so cannot check what's already on there (which has gone flat) to be a new, fresh one.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Would be 12v, it's not that nostalgic.
Also square headlight as standard.

Thanks Map, appreciate you confirming the 12v battery. Apologies for being so naive about everything 'bike' - it's been more about cars until now!

If based on the older CG models I suspect will be squarer YB2.5L-C battery, dimensions approx. L80mm, W70mm, H105MM

Although the 2000+ CGs I believe made in Turkey had a larger battery box so could take something like the YTX5L-BS, L115mm, W70mm, H105mm.

The actual battery code depends on the maker. I'm sure google will throw up a comparisons chart.

TL;DR you really need to check the battery fitted and/or size of the battery box.

I had one of those, actually passed my Mod 1 and 2 on it almost two years ago (only 9 days left of my restriction) I found out that the battery is not the same as other CG125s when I bought the wrong one. In the end I had to take the old battery to the shop for them to measure and order the correct one as I couldn't even find one online.

Awesome little bike though, an indicated 70mph when laid flat on the tank and slightly crazy (to start with) upside down gear box, and with a decent battery never failed to start in the 5 years my family passed it around between us and needed nothing more than service items, and the occasional clean up of the front brake drum to stop squealing.
