Hello everyone!
I'm having a rather irritating issue with my NC30. When cold, she will start up fine and run beautifully. When she gets warm however, she coughs and splutters like you wouldn't believe. Bogs down anywhere between 1.5k and 7k revs. And she will just randomly die on me for no apparent reason. I am bewildered as to what could be causing this! the only mod to the bike is a Yamamoto exhaust system. Thanks in advance. Ride safe Cool

Is the choke working properly?

choke is fine. That was the first thing I checked. When the engine is warm and I put the choke on, it bogs down and dies like I expect. What I don't 3expect is for it to do that when the choke isn't on. The bike has a mind of it's own haha

With it being a Honda, have you checked the reg/rectifier and CDi, are they getting hot?

Ah, no I haven't. How would that affect it between certain revs only though? When she is in high revs, there is all the power in the world. Makes no sense.

If you've eliminated fuel/carbs, timing/compression, then you're left with electrics/ignition.

Honda CDi's, particularly on older models, are notorious for failing and intermittent faults, the reg/rectifiers are much the same.
Have a search round here for reg/rectifier testing, there's been plenty of stuff about it on here. Is it getting very hot? Is the insulation on the wires melted at all?

How many CDi untits are there on your bike?
There were two on my NSR250, one for each cylinder, one of them was intermittently dodgy! It's usually a dry joint on the PCB, a manufacturing defect, you can't fix it, you need to buy another, if you can find one.

Could be a blocked fuel filter, air filter, have you tried new spark plugs? You need to eliminate all the possibles, one by one, until you find the fault.

This sounds identical to the problem I had with my first NC30 - it turned out that there was a kink in the fuel hose from the tank.

EDIT: Also join the nc30 group on facebook:

Those guys know about everything to do with these bikes.

A fault on the pulse generator might cause this problem, or when your coils get warm they are breaking down.

Dunno if that's any help to you or not.
