Hi

Conventionally, put it into second, pull the clutch, run along and jump on while letting the clutch out.

Personally I normally leave it in neutral (easier to push), run along and jump on once speed has built up, then drop down onto the seat as I knock it into 1st gear.

Note, not specifically for a bike, with fuel injected vehicles you might have a an issue as it needs enough power in the system to prime the fuel pump and pressurise the system. And on vehicles with cats, bumping them can damage the cat.

All the best

Keith

Find a hill
Turn ignition on
Put in first & hold clutch in
Roll down hill
Release clutch when you're up to a decent speed 10mph or so
Ride away

Had to bump start my brother last week on his GSXR600, managed on a small hill with me pushing him, hard work though.

Once you have it running, identify a wire from the ignition switch that you can use as a trigger, and put a relay in between the battery and the girps.

You need to wire your heated grips so they are switched by the ignition, possibly through a relay. Yeah 20:20 hindsight, but all it takes is catching a switch when you get off the bike and flat battery next morning.

Also, use 2nd for bump start depending on the bike, it's easier.

I would recommend, however, using jump leads from a car. Conventional wisdom appears to be to keep the donor vehicle turned OFF if you are starting a delicate motorcycle.

Personally, I have a car battery I keep indoors and charge every now and then. The mere threat of using it causes my motorcycle to start, but one day it will be useful.

See stinkwheel's thread How to wire in an electrical device using a relay..
Still with pictures, and a good read.

I had to bump start my Thundercat a couple of weeks ago - I was able to push the bike and let the clutch out, and keep running alongside it. The weight of the bike easily overcame the compression of the engine so the wheel didn't lock. I know a 125 will be lighter, but it'll also be easier to get up to a decent speed (and it's not like it's a race engine with high compression), so worth a shot.

The other option is to jump start it from a nearby 12v vehicle (bike, car etc).

Then, wire up the grips from a relay!

Find a way to kill the lights (like pull the fuse) if you have are having starting difficulties. Turn of everything electrical you don't need.

Fuel injection systems, complicated electronic ignition systems and catalytic converters all hate bump starting.
