Hi all

I have been out and about in the great weather recently and I am absolute MELTING.

HeLd Nelix Textile trousers
Held Touring Agron boots
Held Sting WP gloves
Weise Nevada Jacket

All winter liners removed.
All vents open. Sweating like a pig, biggest problem is the trousers act like a steam trap and just cook my legs and feet.

Now, I dont belive we get good enough weather for long enough to warrant a "summer" set of biking gear.

Any ideas?

I wear rst leathers and sidi sport boots all year, perfect in the summer really. Nice and breezy with the linings out, vents open on the boots yiu get a lovely breeze

Although if your at a stand still you do cook but that'll probably happen no matter what you are wearing

If you don't want to get new gear, get some base layers ordered. There like thermals but work the opposite way to keep you cool

Main reason didnt want to get new gear, is becuase most of this gear is brand new.

Yeah, mostly A4 into London today, absolutely Jam packed so not movign at all. Will have a look at base layers, cheers!

Have you tried opening up your jacket at the front? Obviously opening your jacket is going to reduce it's protection. I tend to have it almost all the way open at low speed, then pull the zip up as I get moving.

Also opening up the zips around you ankles and wrists can help get air flowing a bit better.

You can get kevlar jeans for £40 on Amazon or eBay, less if you're lucky. Pretty much all I wear now.

While you might not believe we get good weather here, sometimes we do Smile

It is worth getting a lighter set of bike clothing.

Even if they don't get worn often each year, it'll mean they'll last for years Thumbs Up

I have several pairs of Kevlar trousers that I wear, I just change what I wear under them.
Felt practically naked with no base layer on, but a cool breeze blowing up the flue pipe was most welcome Very Happy

As for your jacket, it's practically a coat!

I have to dry my textiles out every time I wear them lately, not fun, or even pleasant smelling. Sick

I bought a a pair of shorts the other day and toyed with the idea of wearing them on the bike but, decided against this for obvious reasons.

Riding down Prescot Road (A57) and it's just traffic lights after traffic lights every few yards, so you just end up cooking constantly. So much so, I've resorted to taking the bus a couple of times, it's that bad.

Start sweating before I've turned the engine on lately. Sad

What is this 'heat' we hardly touched 70F/21C yet on the North Yorks coast!
Leathers are better but still going to be too hot slow-moving in town.
You need air-con, see other thread.

I've felt less baked in my leathers (RST Touring, not particularly vented) than in my HG Textiles with the lining out and vents open. The perforated leather behind the knees is just bliss when you stick a knee out.

I might treat myself to a leather jacket with many small perforations if I can find one that doesn't make me want to sing Go Go Power Rangers! For starters, I sing really badly.

Are your gloves over the top of you sleeves?
Try putting your gloves on, then your jacket, so sleeve is over the glove.
I'm not a slave to ATG-ATT, I dress to ride, not for disaster; and I actually dont like gloves; but breeze up my sleeve fills back of my jacket very nicely, keeping my kidneys cool, where other wise tends to get a bit sticky.
Could be worth a try, before buying even more gear.

I've got one. its great going along for town and its usually shower speeds. what the things designed for, but they severely lack abrasion resistance..

Wear a pair of jeans, no point having all the gear if you are uncomfortable and so hot is is a distraction you'll be less likely to crash if you are comfortable.

Doesn't entirely fix the problem - but i've finally started using base layers recently after years of severe sweating, having been told by various people say they make a huge difference. They really have, especially in textiles. Used to be absolutely dripping wet in this sort of weather after even short rides, now the gears just... moist Thinking

Make sure you get the moisture wicking base layers NOT the thermal sort though, or you may well die Laughing I find my one piece leathers are better than textiles in summer for riding, although they are perforated with holes around the chest which helps a lot. Just a PITA to wear once you're off the bike.

I know its not answering the bottom half question as my RST trousers are like a heat trap too even with the lining removed.

However the top half opens up all over the shop. RST Raptor 2 has air vents either side of the chest, both forearms and from shoulder blade to shoulder blade. Probably a bit overkill as you start looking like the michelin man over 50mph on a naked bike.

The only down side is that the chest vents are velcro and only pin back with a pop button so could be an issue when the velcro start giving up.

I just wear my kevlar aldi special jeans at the moment as its the only thing that get airflow going.

Try putting your gloves on, then your jacket, so sleeve is over the glove.

Depends how cold it is, but was part of the choice of my summer gloves that they are quite long, but not at all bulky, so will fit easily under my leathers

Remember the 80s? Pair of Adidas Kick trainers. Lightweight Campri jacket. Pair of jeans. Lightweight summer gloves. That's pretty much what I still wear, no overheating issues here Laughing

Yes, I might come off. But I might also win the lottery or die in my sleep tonight Twisted Evil
