I need to replace the drill bits I currently have.

Mainly used for masonry work around the house but would like to have the best bits for the job (or close to if too expensive).

I've seen that cobalt drill bits seem to be the best but these are for metal. Would they work on masonry/wood?

Can anyone recommend a good set that would last (don't want cheap bits that break or don't cut through the material very well).

EDIT: Been looking at these:
https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Power+Tool+Accessories/Cobalt+Drill+Bits/Cobalt+Pro+Drill+Bit+Set+19+Piece/d80/sd1230/p94153

or
https://www.its.co.uk/pd/300025-19-Piece-Cobalt-Drill-Bit-Set-_ULT300025.htm

Not sure on the brands though and if the last is too cheap?

those are metal drilling bits. They'll drill timber but will bind if it's too thick. Don't try drilling masonry with them you'll wreck them instantly beyond even re-sharpening. Masonry bits are a completely different material and design.

Knew that (masonry) but wasn't sure on using cobalt on other materials so thanks.

Any sets you can recommend that have a bit of each (metal, masonry, wood) or individual sets?

Go for tungsten carbide tipped drills for masonry but don't buy cheap ones or the tips will just fall out.

I never bought a set. Buy the best you can afford, that doesn't necessarily mean the most expensive you can find.

For masonry I'd be tempted to buy used good SDS bits off eBay or gumtree. Something like https://r.ebay.com/7r5wad

I tend to use Bosch SDS bits for drilling concrete floors, they hold up well as long as you try not to drill through the steel re-enforcement.

You could try these https://www.screwfix.com/p/bosch-sds-hammer-drill-bit-set-brute-tough-box-8pcs/92406
Or these https://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-extreme-2-sds-plus-masonry-drill-set-4-pc/44568
Remember though, drill bits are consumables so dont get hung up on them lasting.

https://www.screwfix.com/c/tools/multi-material-drill-bits/cat5920044

Steel, wood, masonry, uPVC, ceramics and concrete multi-layered materials.

Have fun.

It's all well and good saying how brilliant SDS bits are, but if you don't have an SDS drill you might as well use a pencil.

I've not replaced all of mine to Dewalt Extreme 2 drill bits, they chew through near enough anything and make it look easy!

Costly but very much worth it!

They do them for all applications you'll need it for Smile

Only thing metal nose it failed on was a screw extractor bolt that had snapped.. but then that's seriously hardened anyway! Otherwise anything else it has torn through for me in a home environment

Or just put them in a 13mm chuck.
