Right going to look at a Bandit 600 1998 Model tonight,

What things to look out for specifically on a Bandit of this vintage with 21k on the clock?

Collector boxes are prone to rotting on Bandits. Suzuki's of the 90's seem to be built better than the new ones today to be fair though, at least compared to my SV. Just check the normal stuff like pads, chain, fork seals etc and on the test drive that the clutch doesn't slip or any strange engine noises. Use the condition of the chain/sprockets and tyres to barter on price. They are a top end noisy engine being air/oil cooled but just use your judgment in what is normal and isn't. Most will have been ragged all their life and probably will have a few tacky street-fighter extra's but they are generally bullet proof engines and doing the valve clearances on these is about as easy as it gets on a big bike.

i think* the engine sits in a cradle - this is generally where all the rot seems to be (so im told)

The main frame itself is not a particular problem it's the removeable cross member piece that bolts across at the front and joins the two front downtubes behind the headers that rots out pretty quick if not kept on top of.

Check the oil cooler where the pipes bolt up for oil mist or cracks/lumps out of the alloy. Corrosion on the oil drain tubes on the front of the engine and on the rocker cover molts especially the front one middle left. Exhaust collector rots out and the brakes seize.
