My wife's CBF125 has managed to seize up its tank cap. I'm not sure how, but no matter what I do, I can't get it to unlock.

I've tried penetrating oil, shock and unlock, physical shocks, and general gentle persuasion so far, to no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm a little reticent to drill it out, because swarf in the tank isn't much fun by any measure. Am I stuck with hammering a screwdriver in until the lock gives out?

Whilst heat is out, how about a bag of ice on it? Might cause enough of a part of the lock to contract and free up whatever is seizing it.

My SV one was REALLY stuck, I used that compressed air but upside down. Got it really cold, few hits with a rubber mallet then out it popped. Lubricated all the little bits whilst turning the key, the little catch etc, now it works fine Thumbs Up

I've recovered a lock by packing it with grease. Whether it was lubrication or viscous coupling moving the pins, I know not, but it worked.

Try the spare key Wink Or cake the original key in the thickest grease you have

I'll try grease, but I'm not hopeful. The key doesn't turn, so my thinking is that the pins have seized.

I had a few " been standing " bikes in with this problem
most if you have time free of with lot ao soaking with good penetrating oil over several days
Pressing the cap down HARD whilst trying to turn the key helps as it removers load from the lock
If no luck the lock will drill out and you have to get another cap / key

The SV cap hadn't been opened in a long time so was a bitch to do but I'd definitely give it the cold treatment Thumbs Up

A long spray of penetrating oil got a dodgey cap off in the past.

If you can replace it cheaply, jam a flat blade screwdriver in it and turn, buy new cap!
Both my CBR 600 and YPVS came to me like that, any key or blade would open the cap.

Weirdly enough, I tried it with the key once more, and it opened. It then seized again. Go figure.

Good thing I replaced the entire lockset today, then.
