Hi guys

I have just fitted a new set of EBC clutch plates & springs into my bike i have been reading the haynes manual for my bike and it's telling to to replace the circlip that holds on the clutch basket / hub for a new one so i have just brought a couple of circlips however i can't seem to find the exact same size, the original circlip that i am replacing does look like it's been in the bike a while

My concern is that the original circlip sits in the groove it needs to clip in but it moves freely around the groove

The new circlip seems to be about 1mm smaller and sits and clips in the groove nicely but it is very tight around the shaft and does not move freely, does this sound ok or a bit dodgy?

Hope i have made sense Confused

Here are a couple of pictures (sorry about the poor quality)

I would get one the right size to be fair, anyone who has misplaced their circlip pliers and had to remove one with a screwdriver will know you only need to loosen it a fraction and it will ping straight off ( usually never to be found again).

If its over stretched its possible the clutch can knock it off, which will be very expensive to fix, as the basket may hit hit the casings, or the circlip could end up in the gear box somewhere and pretty much wreck a good engine.

You didnt say what bike it is but an OEM should be available for pennies, other tan that, take original to hardware store and match it up

I can't seem to find a genuine Honda H100 circlip, the bike is 34 years old it's just a project bike, it looks to me like the original circlip may have been re fitted a number of times because of how loose it sits on the shaft in the groove that's why i didn't want to put it back in but now I'm not sure if the circlip that i picked up from halfords is too tight

The part you are looking for is...
https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-h100s-1988-england_model3444/circlip-17-mm_90601001000/#.U8gabpRdVvQ

In opposition to everyone else the circlip on my H100a is also a loose fit and it's been on and off loads of times (3 times this week and removal No. 4 tomorrow). Yes it's not a good fit, yes I have circlip pliers, yes I'll be using it again. I'm not too sure how big an isse it would really be if it drops off as most of it is all held in place by the actuator anyway.

What the others say is correct though. I'm just loath to spend the time waiting for a new one to arrive when the 'H' is my only transport to work.
