Hi great hive mind.
Anyone know how to time up the crank on a H100 engine?
On the left hand end is a cog with a mark.
On the case is a mark.
On the end of the crank there is meant to be a mark.

You guessed it, I took of the cog without noticing that the mark on the end of the crank is not there. Sad

Anyone know if the missing mark would align at TDC or may be BDC or some other angle?

If it make any difference to bike is a H100a but I think the engine remained the same really through the life of the H100 series and MB100's as well

Any help much appreciated.
Bob

Stick up a photo of what you have. Trying to figure out what the cog on the crank is for, can't be oil pump or water pump coz they don't need timing. Does it have a balancer?

It's the main drive for the bike. It goes to a balancer shaft and the clutch.
Thinking about what you've said...
It only really cares about the balancer shaft as far as timing goes. The ignition timing is run from the other end of the shaft.

I hadn't though about that.

This simplifies the question I guess. I presume the balancer should be the opposite side to the piston? EG. with the piston at TDC the balance weight should be pointing in the direction of BDC.

Darn! I need to take it all apart again to see where the balance weight is in relation to it's marks Sad

Thanks for the thought provoking question Pete.

Looks like you should be looking for a very small punch mark on the very end of the crank...

The balancer gear lines up with all those after?

Thanks trisers,
This would be very good if the punch mark on the end of the crank still had it. Previous removal of the crank with a hammer has obliterated the mark.

Seeing Pete's comments I realize this is just for the balancer shaft so have put the shaft weight in opposition to the piston and it should be OK.

Follow up, balancer shaft timing worked fine.

Shame I've made an error some place in the gearbox as it's full of false neutrals and won't stay in top gear :o(

That's tomorrows problem.
