I have recently been given a running 1991 Yamaha XJ600 which immediately screamed Cafe Racer project to me,

The frame will be stripped , cleaned, and powder coated, the engine will have the same treatment and a refresh. but i want the thing to handle well so Im thinking an R6 5EB front end and Swing arm allowing me to run a 120/70 on the front and a 180/60 or 180/55 on the rear.

Does anybody know of where i can find out the steering stem dimensions for the XJ AND THE R6 and if it would be a straight forward swap or would it need the stems swapping over etc?

Cheers

Have you looked up the bearings for both of them? Comparing the bearings on-line should be easy enough to do and will let you know if it's possible at least.

i think the xj600 only has a 2.75-3.00" wide rear rim. Be fun getting such a wide rear to work assuming the swinger will even fit.

As sidewinder said, its its the same dimensions as the never XJ600 diversion it would open options up..

Here are the common FZR600 and YZF600 swaps for the 600 diversion..

How about my point of the chain cutting through the frame?
