Dear BCF,

Car - 1.2 Corsa C (2003)

Originally when bought it would cut out around 3/4 seconds after starting. You could rev plenty whilst it ran for those few seconds, so I doubted it was a fueling issue.

I replaced the crank sensor as I knew this was a known fault. This seemed to fix the issue, no more cutting out. (around May)

Yesterday the car started doing the same thing, I replaced the crank sensor again (being £8 I thought it was worth a punt and I'd heard the pattern ones could fail).

Didn't help at all, car still cuts itself out after afew seconds.

There are no dash warning lights on either.

I would note that this has started just as the mornings have got a lot colder. Don't know if it is temperature related?

Does anyone know of any more common faults?

Thanks,

von1papen

Learned to drive in one of those. Was really annoying 'cos it cut out several times during my lessons. The instructor kept swapping the ignition key which used to get us going so try your spare? Other than that it'll be the usual shit - sensor or coil pack.

The thing being is it never cut out whilst driving, and it is a very deliberate, exact same time cut out right after starting the car.

My thoughts are that the ECU is deliberately cutting off the fuel supply because it isn't getting information from some sensor or another, so it turns the engine off to prevent damage.

Or it may be a key chip/immobiliser problem, I may suck it up and pay for it to get plugged in and have the ECU read. Wwill probably save time and money in the long run. Crying or Very sad

Possibly cam sensor normally both cam and crank sensors are changed when one of them is suspected to be at fault

I'll go and pick up a cam sensor, sounds about right.

If the ECU didn't know what position the cams were at it would shut down to stop catastrophic damage.

Immobliser?

You got a different key you can try?

I had an Audi that would do exactly this every now and then. Start for 1-2 secs then cut out. ECU was full of "Immobiliser Triggered" codes. New key fixed it.

Is the Corsa C UK forum still running?

If you do go on that forum and see any posts from a similar username to mine from about five years ago, it certainly wasn't me.

Unfortunately I don't have a spare key, the key that came with it is knackered and the remote doesn't work.

Can you have a new one copied off a dodgy one? I wouldn't want to pay £100 odd quid if the new one would be as bad as the old. Or is this possible?
