I wonder if you saw the last charity motorcycle ride thread on this forum? It didn't end well.

I predict this will end badly.

Take the money that would be spent on petrol and donate it directly to the charity of choice.

i dont understand things like this.
a paid for jolly and you expect folks to pony up some cash?

now if you said "hey at my own expence and personal discomfort im going to hang from the severn bridge for a few weeks to raise awarenes for the charity sarcastic undertakers please visit their site and give if you can"
then people might see you and say "hmm sarcastic undertakers need my help"

what you are doing is dicking about pretending(to yourselves)that its for a good cause.
possibly just wanting some glory.

im off on holiday next week ,while im away please give to the charity of your choice.

If anyone wants to give me a bike (honda pan european please Honda), and fuel card. I'll do a 10,000 mile tour of 15 countries of europe over 3 weeks to raise money for something in the better end of the charity scale, like the dorset and isle of wight air ambulance.

I'll even camp and pay for the channel crossing myself.

what a miserable bunch. this is not a not a jolly,
This has not been done before. tha logistics of organising this has taken us from last year to sort it out..
were trying to raise money in memory of some of our friends who have died whilst riding motorcycles or from natural causes.
It wiil be a challenge, have any of you tried to ride an Enfield before? not the comfiest or fastest bike in the world.

We were going to do this on a Honda 50, but the enfield guys stepped in.

I just dont understand so much negativity from people nowadays

You're in denial that you're not off on a paid jolly. Do you think the people that go on polar expeditions find it easy?

500cc isnt a challange to ride round the country we have three or four members ride them everyday to work and at weekends

the 50cc would of been a challenge

and my mates all did it last year on honda 250 reflexes from the 80s as a holiday rather then a paid jolly

put in perspective, id do that ride for free.

that or all cash id spend on petrol would go to the charity.

What is it then? It sounds like a nice holiday complete with the free use of a bike and someone else paying for your petrol.

Those are just a couple I found very quickly. It's been done many, many times before.

Big Rab wrote:

You have a few riders each with a start and finish point for the leg of the ride they're doing. That's not exactly the logistical nightmare you're trying to say it is.

Big Rab wrote:

By going on a free motorcycle jolly. Smile

Big Rab wrote:

The speed and comfort of the bike (or lack of) are the challenging parts of what you're doing?

Big Rab wrote:

Using a Honda 50 would have not been challenging, using a free Enfield 500 with free petrol is even less challenging.

Big Rab wrote:

Presumably you've seen how other threads like this go and what the reaction is from BCF about people wanting sponsorship for going on a free jolly in the name of charidee?

I'm with Cansa on this.

Who will pay for the petrol and overnight stays, breakdowns, consumables (Tyres etc) and the likes? Does this come out of the money you get from sponsorship? If so then you are having a laugh. Why should we fund your trip around the UK in the name of "Charidy!"

If you are paying for the above yourself then you would be better, and the charity would be better off, if you donated the whole combined estimated cost to said charity and not bother because it will cost you a small fortune.

Mine is comfortable, I did 1000 miles round scotland in 3 days last month. It's frugal fuel consumption and good tank range make is quite a sensible choice. If you're running a modern EFI version, they are reliable and will keep up with traffic on a motorway

This is mine parked up on the Isle of Skye.

I rode an Enfield 350 bullet everywhere in Britain. For fun. Solo. I carried all my camping gear with me, and did not return home.

I visited 89 very specific locations based on a cryptic clue and planned my logistics on the fly each day using maps and route-cards.

Fun was had. Hardship and difficulty was not.

That was how I chose to spend my long (unpaid) vacation as a reward for working 10 years in the same job.

What you are proposing to do is not particularly hard so don't expect others to pay for your holiday. Meet the full cost of the expedition yourself. Collect money on the way because people WILL be interested in what you are doing and WILL donate to the cause but please don't squander their money on going for a ride with your mates.
