So which one should be used? as my first British winter in a while is coming up. (HK winters are 17C if it drops below 13C an alert is issued and old people are given money for heating).

I always used to use FS365 and tbh it worked after a ride a quick spray on exposed parts and blind spray through fairing gaps. It keeps a protective layer of crud on the bike which washes off.

While I read a lot about ACF50 these days and the fact it can cause a cinema floor type stickiness on the bike and can form a black film which requires something called washing with some sort of chemical called shampoo to remove.

Tests like this don't help

https://f2mcltd.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/winter-salt-protection-acf50-fs365-or.html

As the steel was sprayed with salty water but the FS365 was not re-applied after each ride.

I have used ACF50 the past 2 winters on the YBR.
Works just a treat.

It was this link that made me go with acf50, good stuff, like purple translucent oil, pretty much the same viscosity so it's not a spray on and leave, more like a spray on a cloth and wipe and leave.

Acf50 from me too Thumbs Up

I was reading up about ACF 50 as I have my first can on order. On one of the forums I was reading, the bloke that runs the all year biker company posted up on his experience with it. One of the things he mentioned was that if the ACF 50 is sticky, it means too much has been applied. It only needs "2 one/thousandths of an inch" - more than that and it just kind of sits on top of itself and congeals into a jelly that holds dirt. If you get the right amount on, it should be a smooth as glass, and water should bead off it when rinsed, taking the dirt with it.

He also said that rather than spray it on the bike directly, spray it onto a microfiber cloth and apply it like that. Apparently you can keep said cloth in a zip lock and use it for touch ups without respraying it. For hard to reach areas, spray into the lid until you have a little in liquid form, and use a thin paint brush.

ACF50 works really well, but it WILL make your bike look like shit after a few days.

The crap sits on top of the ACF50, making everything look dirty. In spring, when you wash it all off, it's clean underneath

ACF50 here but I've learned my lesson - I found that my saddle came up a treat, and I'm still getting it off nearly a year later Laughing

No, I'm afraid it seems to attract men in smelly textiles...but what the heck..at my age I'm not choosy.

Quite the opposite, it's a filthy goo now but it's getting easier to scrape off! It's reapplied by my textile trousers Rolling Eyes with the next scraping I'll give them a good scrub on the legs - I did the arse last time. This is what it's like - beware!

How long does it last?
Is once a year enough, or can you stretch it further if you don't try to wash it off?

I use both. FS365 all over the metal bits. ACF50 on the lower 1/3 that gets hit by road spray.

I used it through last winter and it worked a treat.

I sprayed it into the lid and applied with a cloth and used a small paintbrush for harder to reach places. I think I also just gave it a blast straight from the can in one or two areas as well.

As has been said, the bike looked filthy before too long, as I used it every day for commuting. I'd re-apply a bit every now and then to some of the more exposed parts of the bike.

As for removing it come the better weather, it wasn't a problem. I just used muc off with a sponge and warm water like I always do and underneath all the crud that had built up over winter, was a shiny, rust free bike. I also was living by the sea at the time too, so it had the extra salt to deal with.

Muc off and a cloth/brush/sponge/gentle hose will strip acf50. Dont put too much on your rims or it will be all over your tyres. Apply to smooth surfaces with a cloth. Power washer entirely unnecessary. Keeps my chromed out monstrosity looking filthy but rust free. I ride through pretty much anything except ice, and caked in road salt is a frequent look.

I've used acf50 for a few years now and its great stuff, tbh I don't ride in harsh weather anymore, don't need to and don't use it as much these days.

As above, water based degreasers will remove the acf50,usually you can tell if you still have a good coating of the stuff as the water beads when you wash the bike,or when it rains, once it stops doing this its time to reapply.

What is this word wash??????

Just normal car wash stuff will do..

But the whole point is you don't want to take it off... You let it build up a layer of protection Thumbs Up

It was the back disk, not the front, but it did reduce the effectiveness just a little

My handy tip, after doing anything, lubey/oily etc. give your disks and calipers a quick blast with brake cleaner.

So after buying some acf50 after recommendations from people in actual real life I dont have a clue what Im doing with it. Is it true i spray it on leave it whole winter and wash it off the muck in spring? Cause if thats the case my clean freak mate will go apeshit if he sees my bike covered in road salt, saying that I wont see him in winter as hes a fair weather guy
