Hi

Can anyone suggest a pair of gloves that are going to be hard wearing and not break the bank?

My current pair of track-tech RST's haven't lasted too well. The stitching has come apart in several places (I have crashed a few times in them but never at a fast speed, and they've never had prolonged contact with tarmac). I've had them about 8 months at a guess, maybe 7k miles?

Here is where they've come apart:

https://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y459/nark_square/CD0E3970-CD76-4557-BCDF-9602C119FC15-1656-000001C04ED93C7C_zps07af7f6e.jpg

I want a race-type, single skinned summer glove.

Budget up to £70, I guess.

For commuting and pit bike racing duties.

I can recommend alpinestar SP2 as very well made and long lasting sports gloves. I have had mine 3 years Abd they still look brand new, worn probably every other day on average so well used. They also look good and are comfy, don't get any pains on long journeys as they're nice and flexible

They cost about £90 I think but probably cheaper if you shop around. Only downside is they are sports gloves so do get cold in the winter obviously

I'll second Alpinestars SP2, decent gloves and are comfortable on. Have SP1's myself and they are doing great. Can get a pair of SP2's for around £80-£90 but will last you a long time and will be worth the money.

Not ever tried them myself but I'm half looking for a new pair of gloves myself and I've noticed HG have A* GP-Plus gloves down from £130 to £80. May be worth a look?

Spada Predator, imo. £50

https://www.ashleyfashion.net/pic/29/spada-predator-motorcycle-black-white-leather-gloves-xl.jpg
Had them 6 months or so now. Comfy, look good, crashed at Silverstone in them last month and they're just a bit scuffed on the palms and have a rouged up wrist strap buckle. you can get them in black I think if you don't want tarty white Mr. Green The beige palms on my white gloves does look a bit grubby now.

I seem to be the destroyer of gloves, mine end up like yours look. I've gone through a fair few of winter and summer gloves and Spada are the only gloves that have ever held it together. I've got a pair Spada Enforcers as winter gloves and they are also well made.

Thanks all. Those Spada ones look pretty good. There's no other option than white really, I'm a tart.

These ones have funny swirly bits on too, and skippys bum leather on the palms.

I tend to be hard on gloves too.

Best gloves I ever had were the Frank Thomas R series. Bloody good glove and lasted forever - and I hate FT stuff normally.

Currently rocking some Merlin (rebadged FT I'm told) which seem well made and holding up well. Thumbs Up

Take them back to the dealer (if it was a dealer) I did that today with a pair of boots that fell apart after 3k miles. He swapped them on the spot. Even though it might be the same gloves, they would be safe, although it would be boring...

I have had these for about 5 years and they have to be the best made gloves I have owned in the past 15 years.

https://www.highvelocitygear.com/expro.html

https://www.highvelocitygear.com/images/products/exhibitionpro/ep-top-medium.jpg

All the *insert brand name gloves here* I have had have been shagged and falling to bits after a couple of years max. Velcro gone to shite, leather worn through or worse stitching disintegrating after being used as all year round commuter gloves.

I'm using the cheapo short cuff Triumph jobbies from the Triumph outlet store, and they have lasted well. And for £20 it wouldn't matter if they only lasted 7000 miles.

Looking at the pic and where they have failed. You are buying gloves that are too small for your hands.

must say I am with jonathan on this one... That was my first reaction send them back and follow that up with writing to the factory or importer. Thats really crap product quality control ..unless you bought them for a tenner from woolworths ?

My best mates had a pair of RSTs very similar to those for years and they look fine, i'd wonder if it was maybe from your off's that they've ended up getting in that condition on way or another, but maybe not Confused

Best gloves i've ever had [for summer riding only] Alpinestars GP-PRO's
https://www.bulldogpowersports.com/files/2249523/uploaded/Alpinestars_GP_Pro_Gloves_Blue_zoom.jpg
Not really sure if they're as much use as they look, but felt very safe in them - had a wrist guard and the smaller outer-fingers stitched together to discourage them snapping or something to that effect i think was the write-up.

New they're a lot more than your budget but you can probably get a second hand pair just about. If not generally similar alpinestars gloves i've had are all really good quality.

For winter/wet weather gloves i use spada enforcers, can get a pair of thermal inner gloves in them too which have kept my hands warm [without heated grips] in down to -5 temps so far. Also have a handy little plastic-tab 'wipe' on the side of the left glove for clearing the visor which can be handy at times.

I highly recommend the RST Pro Series gloves, mine look brand new after 2000 miles bar the bug splats.

Heard nothing but bad about the tractech gloves and boots.

My last pair of boots were tractechs - admittedly used but in 'near-new' condition when i got them. A year later the sole looked like i'd gone running through a spike-pit. Also shite velcro on one boot, and a sticking zip on the other. Normally love most RST gear, but boots - no.

I just bought a pair of Held Sensato - look good for the money I paid, got them for £60 in the end.

I'll let you know what they're like when they turn up but I think I've got a bit of a wait in store for them to come back in stock.

I've been wearing Alpinestar GP Pros for the last 4 years now; I've got 2 pairs and they usually last about 25k miles a pair. Bear in mind that I've ridden in the wet in them, so it's bound to wear the leather away.

Pricey, but I've not had a better fitting or more comfortable glove. I'd pay the premium over the GP Plus(subjectively though) because I felt the plus' because they felt a bit tight across my palms. Also have the A* 365 goretex version of the GP Pro, which works exceptionally well as a 3 season glove from autumn to spring!

Not sure what the current price is, but I have a pair of Alpinestars SP1's that I've had for a number of years, and they're still going strong....

I got a new pair of leather ones off eBay for £7 - I call 'em me lady gloves. They're black, but do look like something your nan might wear. Just wanted some cheap single skinners for summer innit. Seem pretty good! Plus they match me aldi boots.

No. My GP+ gloves have done slightly more miles than OP's and look only a little better.

My older SP2s were noticeably better constructed, for less money.

Go to a shop and try some on.

Gloves tend to fail around the stitching. Choosing gloves with parger sections of leather and less stitched sections means less areas to fail.

I also avoid armoured gloves in general, pointless things. They're still soft on the palms, and when you crash you still instinctively put your hands out, palms down. Armour just makes them stiff and uncomfortable.

My GP Pros had to be sent to be re-stitched and haven't survived its first slide along tarmac, they were just over two years old. Not very impressed.

Even the Aldi gloves I have don't look as bad as that, and mine are a year old. Shocked
