Hi everyone,

Have just got my SXV back from the garage after a full rebuild (new crank, bearings, conrods, pistons, rings) but using same barrels.

Have seen that people who regularly race these just seem to rebuild them then race them? Although i doub't they often change the cranks... I won't be racing mine, purely road use - do i need to run the engine in? If so for how many miles?

Thanks

Ask your engine builder their opinion.

guy who built it says 500 miles of half throttle max... thats a long time for such a highly strung engine imo.

Generally speaking the guy that re-built it should know best. If you think you know better then why didn't you rebuild your own engine?

Your call.

Personally if you don't trust your engine builders advice, I'd question why you're using them to re-build it in the first place. Thumbs Up

given that he is the one that built it up....
its conceivable he knows what he is talkin about.

What I would do, make sure its warm, ride it as intended just not massively high in the RPMs as these are pretty much grenades.

Personally I would sell it and buy a more reliable bike Laughing That's what my mate did, albeit his was a 550 and I think one of the heads cracked, he sold it and got a 690 SMC, heavier and maybe a bit slower but on the road who cares.

(Would stick to the builders advice, if he offers some sort of a warranty you'll want to be careful about it)

ride it gently till its up to temp.

10 minutes at 3k below redline.
10 minutes at 2k below
10 minutes at 1k below

drop the oil and filter - there will be little bits of shit floating around that'll get caught as its broken in, presumably it also blew up quite badly before it was built?

use as normal.
