Hiya everyone,

I've looked around here and other forums and not found any concise information. I know that a SRAD 600 fuel tank can be converted for use for a 750 FI bike. I know a breather hose needs to be retrofitted to a 600 tank. But I'm struggling to find out what ways this is to be done, I've heard of splitting of the water drain hose (if so where?) or getting a welder out and welding on a new nipple to the tank.

Can someone provide some clear guidance of what the mods are and how they are done would be great.

Thanks

You don't need a breather - you need a return. With an external pump there has to be a route back to the tank to bleed off excess fuel from the pressure regulator.

Here is how Suzuki do it on th eHayabusa. There's just a U-shaped piece of pipe welded into the tank bottom and pointing back down. There's also a small hole drilled in the underside of the U-bend I guess that's some kind of anti-syphon to stop it pulling air into the system somehow. This setup will let you get to a very low fuel level before th epump cavitates. I would say that a straight-up inlet would do or a 90-bend would be better.

On my bike I just plumbed the return onto the rear wall and let it spray out but I take care not to work the bike hard at low fuel levels because on a turbo it'll melt the pistons if the pump draws air on boost.

Hmmmm.... Interesting,

The reason I ask is that I picked up a cheap SRAD with an engine swap to 750. Guy said he fettled with the fuel tank to get it working for FI. The problem I get is that there is sometimes fuel starvation issues. I suspect he has may have add the return hose to the breather nipple.

Point being there is two nipples on the tank backside. One I presuming is the drain and the other is the fuel return. That lets me think whats he done with the breather.

The two pipes are probably tank breather and a drain to take rain water or over-filled fuel from around the filler cap. You shouldn't use the breather as a fuel return as you're creating a closed circuit and there's no way for air to get into the tank as the fuel is used up. This could be what's causing your fuel starvation.

I agree which is why I'm asking what the mod (in detail) is make a 600 fuel tank compatible for a 750 FI

You just need a return hose barb, as I said in my first reply.

I get that Smile

I went and just double checked a couple of things on the tank. Its a 600 tank so two nipples on the back. I got the fuel feed hose from the pump underneath going to the rail.

There is a fuel return hose connected to the right nipple (as if you were sat on bike).

The water drain hose is connected to the left nipple (as if you were sat on bike).

That then takes me down the 'where's the breather hose' that should be connected to the middle nipple on a genuine 750 FI fuel tank.

Maybe the question I should be asking is what is the correct way of converting a 600 tank for a 750 FI?
