Aloha!

So I've been riding a 125 for half a year or so now for the commute to work and have officially caught the bug! Fingers crossed I will be A2 roadworthy beginning of 2015.

I'm set on a naked bike and the MT-07 is my current favourite (among the ER-6f, Z800E, XJ6 and CB650F). I've been watching endless videos and reading copious reviews, seems like exactly what I'm looking for I'm just wary of the actual raw power of the engine (even though it will be restricted).. So many wheelies!!!

I'm not a hooligan but its clearly a massive jump so it's kinda intimidating.. Any advice/feedback/reassurance would be most welcome!!

If you think any of the other models would be better suited please let me know Smile

only if you're properly cack handed with it, otherwise it will be perfectly usable and fine for a first bike. Be sensible, and it'll be sensible back

Matt B- Have always been tempted by a Street Triple its just slightly out of my price range.. I was aiming for between 4-7grand this time around.. Then invest in a beast after a couple of years on this.

arry - Well that's reassuring to hear that.. It's just nearly every video I've watched very experienced riders involuntarily pull wheelies.. Just worries me that I'm so used to giving the 125 all its got and this would just need a twitch to fly out from under me!

The bike is meant to comply with A2 license (once restricted), so the makers have designed it to be perfectly suited to new riders (as well as anyone else).

Don't worry about the extra oomph, just focus on how awesome it will be and getting your test sorted if that's what you want.

Once passed and purchased, don't ride like a knob and you'll be fine.....for the first week, then you'll spend most of your time on one wheel Smile

Haha serious double take then..

Point taken, I did hear though that restrictions are mainly only at high speed/revs and the low end performance is basically the same which is what got me worrying. But cheers, the MT-07 is what I want I think I just need some encouraging!

No such thing as involuntary wheelie - unintentional maybe, but you're the ones making the inputs. Luz the throttle wide open fast in 1st and 2nd whilst sitting on the back of the bike and yeah you're going to be pointing skywards; feed the power in progressively and lean forward and you're not going to have the front wheel leaving the ground.

It seems like a big jump; it IS a big jump, but it's not an insurmountable mountainous chasm jump and 99.9% of the ability to make the step up is you having the right attitude and restraint.

Besides, the bike's not a vicious pyscho kitten killer Smile

In short - you'll be fine Thumbs Up

Out of interest.....how did you get on with that? I've been looking for light chuckable and cheap bikes with good MPG to see me through a semi urban commute. Fit the bill?

You don't say how much you are looking to spend, but for less than £4k brand new Suzuki SV650's have to be the bargain of the century for a first "big bike".

Most dealers are knocking £1000 off RRP. Cheapest I have seen is £3,895.

Perfectly fine as a first bike, used is far nicer than brand new, they changed the headlights to homosex ones.

Not technically A2 legal, but it's on the DFT list of bikes you can ride on A2, so should be fine. I'm on A2, just keep a printout of the webpage in my wallet. Awesome bike, love it to bits.

When I was a young lad:)and still a learner I used to jump on mates bigger bikes quite often and give them some stick.
My girlfriend jumped from a 125 to a 750.
I guess some really torguey or heavy bikes or bikes with a feet back leant over bars riding position might take some getting used to but on the whole anyone who's spent enough time on a 125 will be able to ride a big bike fine.

How's the arrow exhaust on your bike? If (when) I get myself a street triple, I'll want the lowboy exhaust - the only thing I'm not keen on are the twin under seat pipes on the early models (and the dials on the very very early bikes).

What 750cc motorcycle?

I mean, there are motorcycles that are nice to ride, then there are motorcycles that, if ridden by certain people, can be very dangerous no matter what displacement the engine has. Thumbs Up

The exhaust is great. It's loud enough to be heard but not loud enough to get you instantly pulled over. Sounds like an F1 car at high revs in the city between buildings. It's not a road legal exhaust though and you can't even fit a baffle or anything to make it road legal if you so desired. The fuelling gets a bit funny if you don't change it though, very lumpy at around 2-2.5k when held there, so only for very very slow stuff.
