Hello all,

Did my A (restricted) back in '07, rode a 125 for a couple of years commuting daily. Sold it when my restriction came to an end with a view to getting a bigger bike, but something came up and the money got spent on something else, and I never got round to getting another bike.

Fast forward to today and I find a hankering for getting on 2 wheels again. Never having ridden anything for 5 years, and then only a 125 I decided to get some training. Had a half hour assessment first on a 125 then on a 600 to see how I was with clutch control, gears, braking etc, and it went quite well. Didn't drop the bike or have to put a foot down doing U-turns and cone slaloms on a soaking wet leaf covered car park on the 600, so the instructor is happy to take me out for a full day's on road training on the 600.

So I have that booked in for next week. Can't wait. Very Happy

I guess when you passed your test it was before Mod 1 came in?

Yes it was before all that. All you had to do was a CBT, theory and then ride around for 40 mins on a 125 with the examiner following.

You could then in theory never get on a bike again, wait two years and hop straight on a litre bike. Shocked

...and that's the story of how we got the 3DLD. Wink

Glad to hear that you're enjoying it. When are you getting the Fireblade?

OK, who broke Roger?

Has someone fed him tainted Haggis again?

I met a bloke a couple of years ago, who told me that he borrowed his brother's 250cc bike and passed his motorcycle test in the 1960's - at the age of 16.

A couple of days later, his brother binned the bike and their parents forbid either of them to have another - so he never did.

He had recently retired, and at the age of 66, decided to walk into the local Triumph showroom, and ride out on a 1050cc machine - and very nice it was too.

"Didn't you have to do a CBT?" I asked - "What's that?" he replied.

As I watched him wobble off up the road, I wondered if he would make it home alive (he did, I was relieved to find out later) but I couldn't help feeling a little bit hard done by at the time - since I had much more experience on 2 wheels than him, and at least had a recently issued CBT that I thought should at least trump a 50 year old licence.

Still - government knows best.

Really enjoyed my day out on the CBF 600, instructors were generally happy with my machine control, observation and that I didn't seem to be riding like a twat.

So after a little looking around I found this:

Picking it up next weekend. This is going to be long week waiting.

edit - not sure why the image tags aren't working, but hey, it's a naked SV650
