How much will I expect to pay on a full service on a Gixxer 6? Also, how long will it take?

Cheers Thumbs Up

Not really an answer (sorry) but more of a related question:

What is a 'full service', is it different from a 'service'?

Mine's about due for a service to and I've no idea what say or expect for my money! Embarassed

A full service will cost a lot more than £90 mate.......expect to pay out soon Laughing

A full service generally includes.
New brake fluid
fork oil (depending on milage u shouldnt need to worry yet)
Oil
plugs
Air filter
Brake pads (if needed)
Carb balancing
valve clearances and timings etc
Shims (if needed)
Cam chain tensioning (if needed)
drive chain and sprocket check and adjustments (again if needed)

Obviously getting to the valves on most modern sports bikes is a right bitch hence why it costs a bit in labour Thumbs Up

Generally a full service or major service includes valves and carb balance, whereas a minor service is really just oil and filters and a general chassis check over - bearings and the like. Spark plugs sometimes done on a minor.

Also worth noting that it should work out cheaper from an independant garage, but if the bike is worth something, get them to use a genuine oil filter. A franchised honda dealer will use honda parts and charge honda labour.

So...

A full service (i.e Craig's £300 one) is the one done every 5000-6000 miles and the 'service' (i.e Freak's £90 one) is the small one done every 3000 miles (oil change, air filter, spark plugs)?

Well valve clearances only need checking/adjusting every 24k ish on modern bikes. Carb balance should be checked ever 10-12k. Brake fluid every 2 years, but it doesn't always need changing - theres a tool you dip into the resevoir, it tests the fluids boiling point and tells you if it needs changing or not.

So basically on any fair size modern bike you should have a minor service every 4k and a major every 12, and the uberservice at 24.

Of course, after 30k bikes are worthless, so the second uberservice is rarely done on anything but expensive tourers and BMWs.
