I got my VFR a couple of weeks back, and riding home on Thursday night I noticed the FI light flickering on and off - mentioned here
After a bit of internet Sherlock Holmes-ing and testing on the way to work yesterday, I deduced that there is an earthing problem in the earth box and it's trying to earth through the FI light. Reasoning came from this thread and turning the light off when I noticed the light coming on. FI light went out, so I thought I had it sussed.

Don't have all the equipment to fix it at home, but I have the original toolkit so I thought I'd at least double-check the earth box today. Managed to get the rear cowl off and went to look for the offending item, expecting it to be wrapped in the wiring loom as described in my searching the other night. However, I found it straight away, hanging out of the loom, no tape on it or anything. It looked alright, so I took the cover off to examine the points and they looked fine:

The previous owner has got a Scotoiler and heated grips on it, and he said he done most of his own servicing and everything, so I guess he's been at the wiring more than a few times, possibly explaining why the wiring's been adjusted. Just in case, I gaffa taped the earth box to try and keep any rain out as I can't find the electrical tape, and put it all back together.

Anyone got any other ideas on what could be causing the earthing across the FI light?

On the plus side, it was nice to take the bike apart a little and put it back together without incident. Although I did notice a hex bolt had at some point become a screw in it's previous life.

The earth block may look fine but pound to a pinch the wires are corroded inside. That's the usual for Blackbirds and Viffers, always worth hardwiring it first as last to prevent further problems and probably fix the one you've got now.

Cheers guys. I only had a wee bit of time yesterday to check out what I figured was the culprit, so will have to wait until next weekend to get stuck in a little more. Also need to get hold of a solder iron, electrical tape (since mines has went walkies) and mibbes a few other bits.

Gonna sound like a complete noob (well, I am) but where is the ECU, physically? My research told me a couple of ideas to earth this properly too, but I don't know where it is to look at the wires I need to check out.
