I'm thinking bikes, obviously.

With all the health and safety, emissions, EU regulations, testing, etc. I can't think of any modern bikes that would earn the reputation of widowmaker.

Only semi-recent two that springs to mind are...
(1) the TL1000S. I believe poor reliability and handling issues made it unsafe.

(2) of all things the ST1300 in plod guise with it's deadly wobble at speed caused by the way it was loaded.

Any others, preferably more recent? Confused

Wondered the same recently. I think handling has improved far too much for there to be any now. Not a bad thing, but part of the excitement of the old stuff was getting it wobbling at speed around the corners and surviving to tell of it over a pint or four down the pub in the evening.

Some modern bikes could kill me from boredom however Sleeping

Are they really that bad?

I was looking at one as a step up from my hornet next summer, I anticipate it will be a much highly strung performance derived bike.. and I'm sure it will bite.. I just hope I don't get a wobbly rectum. Laughing

And in relation to the OP,

I'm going to have to say the ZX-10R.

Have heard of some mental things to happen when you mount that fucker.

Thumbs Up

The honest answer is depends. If you're quite like and hammering it down a bumpy B road then it'll be banging off the lock stops. Happened to me a few times.

The ZX10R, I'd agree on the 04-05 machine. 06/07 machine was a fat wallowy old Hector in comparison.

That's pretty much 90% of my riding. I'll look into steering dampers and be careful then! Thumbs Up

ZX-10R, the 04 version.

The bike shop opposite an audit I did once tried to convince me to buy one. It had no steering damper, it was crazy quick and shook its head like crazy when accelerating hard. It got to licence losing speed on the slip road sooo soo so quickly.

The 2004 had a design flaw in the wheels as well which means if it hasn't been fixed it can shatter.

As above the 04-05 zx10r always had a mean reputation.

I think the biggest animal from the current crop of superbikes is the 1199, even with all the rider aids it's a handful - with a 2t power band and 190bhp. It sounds like the 2015 models will have much improved driver aids and be far more manageable, but less rewarding when you get it right.

I have also heard things about the ZX10R from someone who is one of the top three fastest and most competant motorcyclists I know.

To quote his review "Fuck my dog!" and "Get away from it! It'll fucking bite you!".

Now that could prove to be very useful information! Shocked

990 SuperDuke, no ABS, Traction Control, steering dampener, very choppy throttle that likes to lunge mid corner, plus the front brakes had a habit of binding solid to the rotor at speed and without warning.

They're getting few and far between now because so many have ended up in bits.

I'd still have one though. Rolling Eyes

gen 2 rsv mille without a steering damper.

hilarious vacuum operated slipper clutch that just doesn't work.

very basic fuel injection, the throttle is like a light switch.

if it was raining id rather take an r1 out.

Nah. Even the original Widowmaker was nowhere near as lethal as the smaller H1A.

I see these midlife crisis dickheads on 350LCs they've paid thousands for harping on about the danger! And think...the 350LC was a positively civilized bike compared to the 70s strokers.

Don't even think about stuff like the Z1300 - they were fat and slow but fuck my old boots, they were dangerous if you tried to hustle them round the twisties Laughing

Only one I can think of is the '04 ZX10.

Genuinely an untameable animal.

For Yamaha; 98 R1/99 R6, for Suzuki; TL1000S, for Kawasaki 04 ZX10, 03 ZX6, For Honda; oh, wait, no.

None of them are really THAT bad from what I've seen/ridden - just that if you properly push them in questionable conditions or are particularly ham fisted they may bite back a bit. More like 'fun' than 'scary' Smile.

The 990 Duke is supposed to be 'interesting'.

Apparently even the KTM200 (the real one, not the 4-strokes-of-excrement) has got a bit more low down grunt these days.
