MOT manual says what Paddy says.
[Updated]
Note that you have to tape over the front and rear "position lamps", not just the indicators.
[RVLR 1989]
A headlamp is distinct from a "position lamp".
A front position light is not required on a solo motorcycle with a headlamp. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Riding on Daytime MOT with light fitted but not indicators is and Offence I heard of at least one rider being done in London
Daytime MOT no lights apart from brake light, daytime use only!
Proper MOT all light s and indicators fitted and working
Otherwise I think the phrase is "your nicked" OK you will get away with it until you ave an accident where Police are called then your in the shit
OH and don't forget to inform your insurers if using daytime MOT it a modification in there eyes ____________________ Dave

Advisory MOT you could argue isn't a mod. But you can't argue that race fairings is not a mod. ____________________ Current Bike: 1999 Honda CB600 FX Hornet

Technically, the manual does say to fail on "A defective or insecure [indicator] switch or one which does not operate the direction indicators on the side selected."
I suppose the witty retort would be "I say, sir, how can that possibly be an indicator switch when no indicators are fitted?"
Then you get failed anyway, and he'll remember your face.
That said, my GPZ did pass with the horn wired to the "push to pass" switch with a sticky label saying "HORN " ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Daytime MOT's and the finer points of what lights and switches are allowed or should be taped up largely depends on the MOT tester and their opinion.
I had no trouble with either of the day time only MOTs I've had on bikes that had brake lights. If the MOT guy won't pass your bike if it's got a brake light fitted then that's something to put back on when you've got the MOT done!
It'd be pretty surprising if the police nicked someone for having a brake light fitted. |
