I've just bought myself the Weise Hi Viz Hornet II jacket:

I'm now slightly concerned that it might be crap. Anyone have any experience of it or other similarly priced Weise gear. I'm a new rider so a bit wet behind the ears!

Cheers

I've had Weise stuff in the past and it's been OK.

It looks about as expected for a new rider. I bought something similar for my first jacket.

The neon yellow will get mucky if you ride in wet weather, and it will probably develop leaks after a few months. If you take to this riding thing seriously, you'll probably want to spend twice as much on a better jacket in 18 months. I did. And then you'll want a different jacket for summer riding / touring, and yet another jacket as part of a leather suit, ...

But I don't think you're doing the wrong thing. It took me some time to get acclimatized to the cost of good gear, to the point that I was willing to make the investment because I knew how much of a difference it made. You're on the learning curve, and it's hard to justify a larger expenditure early on, if you're not sure how serious biking will be to you.

If budget is a factor, you can always add more waterproof layers should it leak down the line. I think you'll have a hard time keeping it both clean and waterproof though. Washing probably won't do the seam tape a whole lot of good, and it's at the economy end of the quality spectrum.

Opened link, saw price, disgusted, closed tab.

Shouldn't buy Weiss judging by the endless horror stories. Fair enough if it's cheap but £200 is a lot to pay for poor quality and poor brand IMO.
