Tax and MOT

My wifes little NSR has been sitting in the garage for a while now and I've finally decided to get my arse into gear and sell it.

The tax runs out at the end of the month and she's just been down to the Post Office to renew it ready to put it on sale. What we didn't realize or even think about, is that it now needs an MOT as it's three years old and obviously she can't tax it without one.

So what I want to know is this;

Can I legally ride it to the garage for the MOT and back home again afterwards without tax? I know I can without the MOT as long is it's straight to the garage.

yes, but you do need insurance.

Im pretty sure you can, as long as the MOT is pre booked and your insurance will cover it Thumbs Up

You can legally ride a bike without an MOT to a testing station, providing the Test is booked in advance (I.e before you go out on the bike!)

You do this so if you got pulled over you can prove to the police thats where its going! Smile

Perfectly legal to ride to and from a pre booked MOT test without a valid certificate or tax, and as someone has said you need insurance (although it doesn't matter whether the owner has it covered, you are still covered on yourt policy you will simply drop a level of cover, so TPF & T becomes TPO), but you must use the most direct route to the MOT station, and if it fails the most direct route from the MOT station to its place of repair!

maybe its different depending which insurance company your with but I am with CIA and there documentation states that the bike you are riding has to be insured by the real owner for my TPO cover to apply on other bikes.

Most do have that clause in the policy, but some people have got policies which don't say the bike has to be insured by the owner/ someone, and they'd looked through all the small print etc, and nothing at all about it.

Just to note, you're insurance is not with CIA. CIA are the broker who sells the policies with insurance companies, but your actual cover is with another company, someone like AXA or one of the other ones. Thumbs Up
