Help with speedfight

I have a peugeot speedfight and it's starting to winde me up any help would be ace Right problem I have is when I bought it is was runnin fine and then after a day it started going dead sluggish and spluttering I got told clean my carb so I took it to a friend he cleaned the carb but still the same I got told it could be my tickover screw tried that nothing then a shop said its my piston there's no compression I have had a new piston kit fitted and it wants to start but won't tryed petty down the head and petty in the air filter hole noting changed plug was getting a good spark and compression is good there's fresh petty and it's going though to the carb any ideas people help would be great thanks

For any 'Engine won't start' problem, you need to know the basics:

1. You need the correct air/fuel mixture.
2. You need good compression.
3. You need a decent spark to ignite the mixture.
4. The spark needs to happen at the right time.

1. Make sure the carburettor is clean, has a supply of fresh fuel (is that what 'petty' is?), there are no restrictions to the air supply, and no restrictions to the exhaust flow.

2. If you don't have access to a compression tester, try rotating the engine by hand from the flywheel. You probably won't be able to do a full cycle with good compression.

3. Remove the spark plug and check the gap with a 'feeler gauge'. 25 thou is a good gap to start with. Whilst the plug is out, re-fit the HT lead and rest the threaded part of the plug against the cylinder head. Turn the engine over with the ignition on, and check for the presence of a spark.

4. If the flywheel or ignition pickup has been disturbed during the piston replacement, check that the stator and rotor have been re-fitted correctly - so the spark will occur when the piston is somewhere near the top of the stroke. Make sure the woodruff key is still present.
