Hi i have a gilera dna 50 , i bought it a while ago and striped it down so i could respray it well after i sprayed the panels and put all of it back on and tried to start it and it wouldnt start , it was sitting for about a year , i put a new NGK spark plug and ht lead and still nothing .. it has had a performance exhaust and a polini high speed variater on it . So i put into a garage to see weather they could get it going but they couldnt find anything eventually they said that the piston and cylinder head was knackerd so they put a new one on and still it wouldnt work so they carried on surching and then they said it was the CDI so they replaced it with a new one and it starts and then cuts out they have also tried different carbs but still it wont work i was woundering if someone could help me out ...manythanks[/b]

For any Internal Combustion Engine to work, you need 4 things:

1. The correct Fuel/Air mixture.
2. Decent cylinder compression.
3. A decent spark at the spark plug.
4. Everything to happen at the right time.

If the first 3 items are OK, you need to make sure the spark happens at the right time - i.e. when the cylinder is near to the top of the compression stroke.

Hi it has got fuel and air going in I have tested the compression and it's fine there is also a strong spark and it has now had a new cdi/coil pack... And it runs better after it had the cdi/coil but still not 100%

I hope the garage didn't charge you for work they did that didn't fix the problem!

Still a few things you could check though - system voltage, dirty fuel, timing adjustment, wiring fault, carb settings, etc. but surely the garage would have checked all that?
