hi,
has anyone heard of or better still, used JMC oils?
its stocked by busters, m&p & umpteen of other places, seems to meet all the usual standards (according to the sales blurb) but is well cheaper than the usual bike specific brands.
example : Castrol fully syn. 2t oil = 18.67 per litre
JMC fully syn 2t oil = 11.72 per litre
i dont usually skimp when it comes to oil (especially for my 2 smokes) but i normally only buy 1 or twice a year & would be buying gear oil, 2t oil, 4t oil etc. all at the same time & reckon i could save enough to buy a few litres more by using this JMC German stuff.
opinons?

cheers,
GAZ

Never heard of it, but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it.

You inferred that you don't buy much of the stuff. Is it worth saving a tiny amount of money over the year and not trusting the oil? It seems to be the same kind of false economy as buying cheap tyres, then being scared every time it rains.

I have never heard of it. To put that in context, I have working in the engine oil business for 22 years.

That said, that doesn't automatically make it bad. The chances are that it is either supplied to them from a better-known oil supplier as a 're-brand' (ie WellKnownOil makes it alongside their other products and puts it in your bottles with your labels), or it is an off-the-shelf formulation from one of the additive suppliers, blended by a 'toll blender' (ie, the additive supplier sells you the additives and tells you what base oils to blend it in and how much, you find a blender who will blend and package this for you). This is known as a 'market general' product, meaning anyone can make and sell the same formulation (thus offering no chance of differentiation, but eliminating any product development costs).

As stated though, on a per-mile basis, how much does oil actually cost? Compare that to fuel, tyres, insurance etc then make your decision based on your own approach to cost vs performance.

hi,
sorry if i inferred that.
i actually buy quite a lot. i own 3 or 4 bikes at any one time (mix of small 2 strokes & bigger 4 strokes) & often work on others.

what i meant was, i only buy 1 or twice a year, but i order a LOT at the same time.
especially when i factor in gearbox oil (ok, only 3 or 4L) fork oil (again only 3 or 4 bottles of mixed weights) & brake fluid. usually ends up being around at least 100 quid at a time.
so getting cheaper oil (especially 4t oil) means i could get more for my money.
hope that makes sense,
cheers,
GAZ
