So recently i managed to rip a chunk out of my crankshaft and instead of replacing the crankshaft and everything else while im there im thinking about just putting a new engine in my CG

She is a 1991, she was running fine till this happened and this is now messing up the timing on her completely.

For an easy life as an amateur i was thinking about putting in a 2005 cg engine with a start motor, this would make my life easier as you can imagine.

But my question is how hard is the wiring, everybody will probably just say to me fix the engine you have but i have decided on this and its what i want to do.

Thanks for any replies and advice (i wont be doing this till after Christmas)

You want to take a '91 engine out, and put a '05 engine in, converting it from kick to electric start - to make life easier?
I could be wrong but it sounds like your opening a can of worms....and would definitely complicate things. Re looming and modifying the bars to take a push start, assuming you'd replace the RH switch....and don't get me started on the frankenpaperwork, you will be replacing the engine number on the logbook?

For an easier life, I'd be looking at repairing the crankshaft on one of the easiest engines ever built.

yeaaa..... I had this idea too.... buy a replacement engine as a back up incase mine dies... 157fmi Chinese replica engine with EStart fully rebuilt with new gaskets, CDI and starter on my bedroom side

the stator wirings completely different, youll need a CDI because the newer engine doesnt have points timing like the old lump then youll need to run a switch from the ignition live for the starter...

all in all which im sure you know all about... A lot of hard work so im hoping my 92 CG engine doesn't blow up or die on me

How hard is it to put a string of numbers in a box on the v5 and post it?

I suppose you have to get someone to write the address on the envelope, and stamps can be a bit tricky sometimes.............

Problem with putting an 05 engine in a 91' cg is that all the electrics is all wrong

you need an 05 loom, 05 tail light, 05 carb, 05 airbox . which won't fit the 91 cg frame for some reason, 05 switch gears

probably cheaper to get another 91' engine , i've done an 05 in to a 91' and its a bodge fest

Thanks everyone ive put in a 92 engine and it seems fine Smile thanks for all your feedback
