....you filter to the front of a traffic queue, waiting at temporary traffic lights which are red, the red light goes out, and nothing else happens? Do you go? Proceed with caution?
I was stuck at the front in the same situation today and after a few minutes pondering I decided to just go.
What should you do? ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/fuzzbcf/

If the oncoming traffic has stopped then tentatively go (I'm assuming here that the yellow and green lights where just broke - not the full set). ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

If the red has gone out, and traffic is waiting at the other end, I would proceed with caution. |

I once had lights stay red on me for a good 10 minutes, i would normally have got bored and gone for it, but there was a police car behind me
The lights were part of a large system of lights where it is easy to see if there are any cars at any of the other lights. after a few minutes the police car beeped his horn, i turned around and he flashed at me. I checked it was clear and went through. he either knew about the problem , or assumed the lights were faulty.
In that instance i dont think i did wrong (neither did he), but if the police car had turned up just as i had gone though the lights then i would have got a ticket :/ |

Those bastard lights.
There was a set of them at Chelsea Harbour for, God, it felt like YEARS They were annoying cos you couldn't see what was coming from the top of the Harbour road so they were dodgy to go against.
I was used to them, but I went out on the back of a mate once who wasn't so familiar with them, and on the way home very late at night, he sat for what seemed like at least ten minutes. I thought he would just whizz thru them without batting an eyelid, but he sat there meek as a lamb waiting for them to change, till I realised he was being "polite" cos I was on the back, and prodded him and said, "Just go, we'll be here forever otherwise."
Heh.
Another time I was pulled up at them, at the front of a car and I thought "Stuff this, I'm off, no traffic coming." But I had neglected to notice that the unmarked car behind me had uniformed plod inside The minute I looked in my mirrors and saw they were following behind me, I KNEW I was gonna get it. But luckily they believed my "I'm nearly home and I'm worried about running out of juice" story (true). They asked me where I lived, I told them (literally at the other end of the road), and hastened off with nowt but a telling off (hoorah for red lipstick and a girlie smile). But the buggers still came down my street to check that was where I had pulled up, anyway. Doh! ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |
