Hi folks,

Got a Gilera Coguar 125 which is a pain to start from cold. You have to wind the engine for about 5 minutes before it eventually fires. Once its warmed up a bit it starts first time.

Battery, plug and carb are both new and its spinning over fine. Mixture screw set to 2 turns out. Yes, I am using the choke!

I've done a compression test at 75psi which I suspect is low (Am I right?)
Could low compression cause my cold starting issues ?

If you think compression is low then first port of call will be the valve clearances I think.

Thanks

Stu

75psi sounds a bit low - if the valve clearances are good and you're not burning oil, you might need to take the head off for further checks.

Sounds quite low indeed.

It does use a little bit of oil so we might be looking at broken rings or general wear and tear on the barrel and piston then. I'll check the valve clearances today.

I don't suppose if anyone knows of a Chinese FM156 125cc engine will fit if I do need to replace parts. Its impossible to get hold of bits for this bike but the engine mounting points look very similar to a standard Chinese 125 engine.
