Do all heated grips require permanent modification of the original grips on a bike? or can they be returned to stock easily enough?

Thanks

Permanent modification? You mean like removal of the standard grip? Pretty much yes unless you get the ones that wrap round the outside.

Easy enough to return to stock. Remove heated grips, wiring and control unit, replace with standard grips.

You may, or may not, damage the stock grips when removing them.

If you are careful, you can usually remove the original grips without
damaging them.

If the heated grips fail, you have several options.

You can cut them off and fit new heated grips.

Cut the wires off and throw away the control unit,
leaving non-heated grips.

Cut them off and reinstall the originals or a brand
new pair of standard grips.

If the heated grips were installed using a very strong adhesive
like epoxy resin, it may be difficult to remove the RH grip
without damaging the throttle sleeve/tube.

My symtec ones fit under the grips. I've fitted three sets now and have always managed to remove the original grips then fit them back on top.

You'd destroy the heating element trying to remove it (its a flexible sticker with a heating element built-in that sticks to the handlebar under the grip) but if you wanted rid of them, you could just cut the wires and there would be no evidence of them being there.
