I have a Ktm duke 125 2011 that has just failed it's mot on the rear shock "Rear shock absorber has inadequate damping effect"

Is it worth getting the shock serviced/repaired here https://www.brooksuspension.co.uk/ktm-duke-125-shock-absorber-refurb-rebuild-repair-service.html

Or would it be better to buy a completely new rear shock, cheapest I have found so far is £248 Sad

Thanks in advance!

If service and repair is cheaper, go for that. If it's not, buy a replacement.

Have you asked KTM how much a brand new OEM shock is? Is your bike out of warranty?

Thanks for your reply. That is the price for an Oem one from a Ktm dealer, it's also the best price online I've found! Bike is out of warranty, think I may just have to suck it up!

That's a lot of money for a shock that might well go pop again after five minutes...

Have you looked at aftermarket options like Hagon etc?

A Hagon is only £300 and it'll probably be better than the Indian OEM pile of rubbish...

Have you tried a dedicated KTM forum?

You might be lucky and find a cheaper rear shock that fits yours, from another model or make.

Several KTM rear shocks on eBay for under £100 - but did you get other quotes for a rebuild?

Send it off to mct as they'll service it for you and set it up for your weight for about £100-£150 delivered back to you.

Check out their website

There are plenty of people around who can service a KTM shock for you, especially if it is a WP shock.

As well as MCT https://www.k-tech.uk.com/ also have a good reputation

I doubt it's an actual WP, it's one of the KTM India bikes, so it is possible it is not rebuildable. However, it's worth contacting the usual suspects of Suspension experts to see if it IS rebuildable.
